Sandustry FAQ
Early Access Questions

Is the Random Seed option working, and how does procedural map generation currently work?
Yes. The Random Seed option is working, but some parts of the map are currently fixed while progression and balance are still being worked on. The starting area through the first portal uses randomized tiles with a fixed set of connections between them, while biomes currently have fixed limits. Areas outside of these tiles are fully procedural. This is temporary, and expanding the procedural generation to create more varied maps will be a major focus of future updates.

Where is the best place to provide feedback about Sandustry's Early Access?
We now have a dedicated place for Sandustry suggestions: https://sandustry.nolt.io/. This helps the Dev keep all of the feedback organized, allows you to browse and see what feedback has already been given, and you can upvote the suggestions you would like to see in Sandustry.

I played the demo version; can I continue on my old demo save?
No, the old demo version and the early access version of the game do not have compatible saves.

Modding Questions

How will modding function in Sandustry's Early Access?
Modding will be available in two places, depending on which version of Sandustry you’re playing. FluxLoader is only for the Demo, while Steam Workshop support is available for the Early Access version.

To access Steam Workshop modding in Early Access, switch to the Mods branch in Steam. Right-click Sandustry in your Steam Library, select Properties, go to Game Versions & Betas, then choose the appropriate branch.

If you switch branches and don’t see the Workshop, restart Steam.

System Requirements and Supported Languages

Where can I find information about Steam Deck compatibility, supported languages, the demo, and system requirements?
This information is available on the Steam Store page, including the Steam Deck rating, supported languages, minimum and recommended system requirements, and the demo.

What operating systems will Sandustry release on?
Sandustry will launch on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Bug and Crash Reports FAQ

How do I collect console errors to add to my bug or crash report?
Press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Backspace.

Click Console in the menu at the top right.

You will see any errors generated by the application. Include these with your bug report to help investigate the issue.

What should I try if Sandustry is crashing, lagging, or not responding?
We’ve collected several potential workarounds that may help with some common issues:
  • Potential Crash Fix: Disable Overlay GPU Flags. Lantto added a --sandustry-no-overlay-gpu-flags launch option (set it under Steam > right-click Sandustry > Properties > Launch Options) that might help prevent crashes.

Note: This will likely make the Steam overlay stop working (achievements will continue to work).
  • If you have an NVIDIA graphics card and Sandustry crashes during gameplay, try disabling the NVIDIA in-game overlay.
  • If you have an NVIDIA graphics card and are experiencing low FPS, the Steam Overlay or Steam Performance Monitor is not working, or NVIDIA appears to treat the game as a background application, try using the --in-process-gpu Steam launch option. Other users have also reported that --use-angle=gl can help prevent frequent in-game crashes.
  • If you are experiencing severe FPS drops or stuttering while using Fullscreen, try disabling Fullscreen in the game’s display settings.
  • If Sandustry is crashing frequently, try closing graphics-related software running in the background. This includes AMD Gaming Evolved, the NVIDIA App, or NVIDIA Control Panel. NVIDIA Profile Inspector users can also try creating a new default profile for Sandustry.
  • If Sandustry launches but does not respond to mouse or keyboard input and you have Razer Cortex installed, try disabling its in-game or performance overlay.
These are potential workarounds and may not resolve every issue. You can find the full instructions here: Potential Crash / Lag Fixes

If you continue having problems, please submit a report in-game through the ESC menu, selecting Send Feedback, selecting bug report, and describing what you ran into, then click Submit. If you cannot access in the in-game bug reporter, please also see How to Report Bugs and Crashes so the team can investigate the issue.

My vacuum automatically deposits what it's holding. Is this a bug?
Yes, this is a known issue currently. Saving and reloading the game should fix this bug.

UI FAQ

Q: How does the Radial Menu work?
The radial menu automatically updates based on your recent selections between tools and structures. There is no way to manually edit this tab, but it is a great way to access your recently and frequently used items.

How do I make a Blueprint with Copy and Paste System?
To start the process, you want to hit "C" (the default keybind) to enter select mode. Then:
  • Mark the structure you want to turn into a blueprint.
  • Copy it with Ctrl + C (You can also paste a structure selected like this by using Ctrl + V)
  • Go to the Building tab and select Blueprint
  • Hit the save icon (the floppy disk) of the most recent item in Clipboard History and name it whatever you like.

How do I import or export blueprints?
To import or export blueprints, first navigate to the blueprint section of the building tab. Then click either import or export.
  • If you are exporting, the game will create a string that can be copied and pasted to be shared with other players.
  • If you are importing a blueprint, you will want to select import and copy and paste the blueprint string into the box that pops up.

Can I flip a copied or selected structure before moving or pasting it?
Yes, you can flip copied and selected structures by using CTRL + H. (This is the default keybinding and may not work if you have rebound keys)

Functions FAQ

Q: How do I interact or affect X material?
The Material Scanner upgrade for the grabber is an amazing tool to consider if you are confused about interactions between matter.

Q: What liquids can pipes move?
Pipes can move any liquid except lava.

My Sweeper Drones are stuck or frozen and won't move X material?
Sweeper drones require a clear drop-off area to function properly. Ensure the drop-off zone is clear and has space, and the drones should start working again!

When using Sweeper Drones, the particles I'm moving freeze and the physics are broken?
This is functioning as intended. When you set a pickup zone for Sweeper Drones, the particles in that area are frozen to ensure the Sweeper Drones function properly, as they need a fixed place to pick up particles. This prevents issues like particles falling to the bottom of the world and your Sweeper Drone chasing that one particle, for example.

Progression FAQ

I can't unlock Tier 5, is this a bug, the end of content, or something else?
To unlock Tier 5, you must have achieved both the Florinol condensed goal and the Find the Anomaly goal. When these two goals are met, Tier 5 will be available to unlock.

I've achieved both the Florinol condensed goal and the Find the Anomaly goal but have not unlocked Tier 5?
If you have experienced this issue, it should be fixed, with the fix automatically applied to affected saves.

I'm stuck on a puzzle room. What should I do?
Puzzle rooms each have a unique solution that players can discover. The most common confusion players run into is not knowing that foundations can be placed on the yellow blocks in puzzle rooms.

How do I automate my flowers?
You can automate flower burning once you unlock thermal buffers and pyro dispensers. By combining the two and a source of heat (thermal buffers can be heated by flamethrowers), you can create an automated flower farm.

Q: How do I make Florinol?
Florinol is produced through a multistep process. First, you must dry Amethelis with a dryer and steam. Then the dried Amethelis must be burnt, turning it into Florin, which will cause it to float like steam. Once it is floating, you must condense the Florin with a condenser into the usable liquid form of Florinol.

Q: How do I get Lava in my factory?
Follow these steps to relocate lava into your factory:
  • Place snow on lava to cool it and create scoria.
  • Break the scoria into cinders.
  • Collect the cinders you have created.
  • Reignite the cinders with a flamethrower wherever you want lava in your factory!
  • Once lava is above the surface, it can be moved freely as long as you have unlocked the Hydro Sponge upgrade.
