I have slight red-green and have a hard time separating the yellow and the green shields and I think most actually have. They could have remedied this by just using more saturated green and yellow instead of the washed-out colors they use now that's hard to distinguish.
Not sure how much color blindness the OP has but generally in game development it is considered a Very Bad Idea to use colors for important gameplay elements unless you also actually implement a color-blind mode. Unless you want to exclude about 10% of all customers that is...
Red = upwards wave effect (use uppercut)
Green = downwards wave effect (use frog slam)
Yellow = no wave effect (use headbutt)
Blue = 2 waves coming from left and right which meet in the centre of the enemy's shield, so just look for waves going left/right (use dash punch)
White = no wave effect, but it looks different from Yellow due to having extra... edges? A sort of ripple, around their shield, though it doesnt move.
This may prove a tad troublesome regardless when you're in tough fight and you aint got time to think which shield is what type on the basis of an animation which takes time to identify, while colors are normally identified almost instantly. Though there is also another ability which you get fairly early-on, if you buy an upgrade for it, lets you break through any shield while it is active.
Serious though, a half a lifetime ago I was diagnosed with red/green and purple/blue color blindedness and recently had to recruit friends to help me identify the colors.
Thanks for your reply, it brings up a lot of valid points!

This is where I got stuck too with the Super Turbo Championship Edition. I beat the old version of this game but I did it with the help of a friend telling me the colors and I just cannot do this part on my own. Plus, I'd hate to break it to you but some bosses and parts just get harder from here.
Last boss by yourself... near impossible.
No problem! I'm glad this helped someone because I've bought a numerous amount of games here on Steam that feel like I threw away my money because I was not aware it was a color based game. Regardless of my disability, it's a good game, otherwise just a shame that Drinkbox didn't consider the 5 million users on Steam with colorblindness...
