Game won't start normally under MacOS 10.8.5

I just bought Westerado. When I click the Play button in Steam, it launches in the background, then hangs. If I click to activate it, it 'quits unexpectedly'.

I have verified the integrity of the game files, but it fails every time, telling me "1 file failed to validate, and will be reacquired." I have restarted my computer, deleted and re-downloaded the game. It still fails to validate, and quits on launch.

I did discover that I can get the game to run by digging down to ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Westerado/WesteradoDB.app, then opening the package, and double-clicking on Contents/MacOS/WesteradoDB. It opens a Terminal window, and then runs the game. This workaround is cumbersome.

Has anyone experienced this? Suggestions welcome!

I probably should have posted this in the General Troubleshooting thread. Duh. If there is a way to move it, I'm not seeing it...
