Is the killer really random?

I've plyed the game about 4 times now, and I've seen someone else play the game once or twice, but I've never seen anyone actully find the killer, so I wanted to know: is it really random? Every time I've gotten close or seen someone get close, it's always a fat guy in grey pants with a big, stupid shaped hat.

One I'm searching for has a brown jacket, fat, with an edged hat.

yes,murderers are always random,first time i found blue give totally random in a gun fight,second time i found brown guy with all clues (full picture of guy),third same as second and fourth random :D

I've beat the game twice. It is pretty random.

Last time i played he had a wide hat, brown pants, blue jacket, turns out it was my father which i had never got before. Outfit is always random though

i'm pretty sure that's an in game achivement. Judging by that, I'd asume it's also posible for the player to be the killer; I think there's an achivement too.

that's correct, i got the "luke skywalker" achievement for that game and there's one called "Tyler Durden" which is when your character is the killer. Would be interesting to see how that would play out seeing as you can't talk to yourself. I guess you can either confess to the sheriff or just go full bandit.
