Does the PS3 Eye work with Windows 8 64-bit?
Has anyone tried using the Playstation Eye camera together with Windows 8 64-bit?

I was planing on buying one on my way home from work today since it is fairly cheap and has 60fps, but when I googled around to check which local shops had it in stock, I also found a lot of threads about people having problems with the Code Labratories drivers in Windows 8.

Apparently the drivers could be installed if you enabled unsigned drivers, but no applications besides the test program that came with the drivers were able to detect the camera.

I couldn't find any indications that the issues had been solved, but the threads were all fairly old so I'm not sure if the problem still exists or not. Has anyone tried using the Playstation Eye with Windows 8?

I wish I could test this for you. I'll have to see if I can borrow a laptop sometime this week.

Mine works with Windows 7 64-bit, but I have absolutely no idea with Windows 8. Hopefully it does!

From what I read the problem is only with Windows 8, if it is in fact still an issue.

Would be awesome if you got a chance to test it Freyar.

I just downloaded the latest CL drivers I am on windows 8.1 pro 64bit and it works with no problems even in the low light I am in at the moment.

Make sure you get the Playstaion eye drivers from here you have to pay $1.99 for them but atleast they are from the creator of the drivers and not some malicious versions that are going around according to CL's site. https://codelaboratories.com/downloads/

Thanks for posting Sa1Wales.

Bought the camera an hour ago and it is indeed working just fine with those drivers you linked =)

I know it also works in standard Windows 8 as well. Heck, I plan to buy another one for my system just so I can have one for each monitor.

CL charging (and removing the old ones) irks me, but I can't fault them for making it simple after the annoyance that was trying to get the Kinect to work.

Just a heads up guys, Windows 8 is officially not supported (by Microsoft) anymore. 8.1 is the current.

What version of the drivers are from the page where you have to pay $1.99 for? I have an old install from them before they started charging for them.. I just upgraded my PC to 8.1 and installed v 5.3.0.0341

It works but you cant set your mic volume in Windows 8.1 but the creator stated in his own forums recently he is working on better Windows 8.1 support. Also noise cancelation wont work but not sure if that was ever supported.

Only downside with the CL drivers currently is the drivers are 32-bit, so it shouldn't work with any 64-bit applications that would make use of the camera. That said, Facerig is a 32-bit application, and thus far I've had zero problems running it on Win8.1 64-bit.

I've been able to successfully use the CL drivers with my 64-bit applications on Windows 8.1. It will work with those apps that use the DirectShow interface, but not those that use the newer Media Foundation API. If you are writing an app, an alternative is to extend the inspirit/PS3EYEDriver project. I've done this with the PS3 Eye capture and analysis app that I have developed for Windows http://www.heath-studios.com/slowmotion

It isn't a paid app; yes the front page asks for Paypal / Credit-card but if you go to https://codelaboratories.com/products/eye/driver/ ( which can be reached by clicking LEARN MORE ) and click Download CL driver, it will download version 4.1 for free... or click on the green CL Eye Platform Driver button... One of them downloads the file for free.... from their website...

uuuhm, I'm not sure which link you clicked, but the green button saying "Download CL eye driver" only leads me back to the downloads page[codelaboratories.com].

Do you maybe have an account on there and are already logged in?

Also, the link that the person used was NOT to that site, so would still have been purged.

(P.S. you do know that you just reported a moderator, the same person who also handles said reports, right? I of course won't handle the reports about myself, but I doubt I said anything report-worthy :P )
