Changelog 2024-05-17 - Sound settings

Dear players,

Today we are releasing a fairly small update, but containing a much-requested feature: sound effects volume setting! But there are a few quality of life improvements as well, details follow. Hope you enjoy this new version of Dawnmaker!

Not included in the demo, we are making good progress on the meta-progression of the game, the feature is nearly complete and we are doing playtests with players in our discord and newsletter. If you’re interested to be included in our next playtests, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter[arpentor.studio]!

Changelog for version 2024.05.17

Gameplay

Lighthouses now repel the Smog when they are repaired, allowing for a little bit more space.

Quality of life

Allow setting the volume of sound effects in settings.
Save sound settings between sessions.
Make the buildings gained FX faster when there are a lot of them.
Allow cancelling playing a card or a building with right-click.
Improve showing cards in hand when there are many of them (now supports up to about 15 cards in hand).
Improve the tutorial by adding some new tooltips to explain the context of the game, the turn structure, and market controls.

Changelog 2024-04-30 - Lighthouses reworked

Dear players,

We are excited to release a new version of Dawnmaker's Demo. Today we're balancing the game, making lighthouses and wonders more appealing, while balancing some of the strongest buildings. We've also used this opportunity to improve or fix some small elements. Here's the complete changelog since the last update!

Behind the scene, we are working on the meta-progression of the game. We're making good progress, so it is possible that there will be a small look into that in the next update… Stay tuned! :)

Gameplay

Allow the player to not choose a building when drafting.
Change the Smog ambiance to increase its oppression based on the Smog level instead of the Aerostation level.

Quality of life

Add a new form to send feedback or report bugs directly from the game, available anywhere by pressing F8.
Change the icon for action points, using a number followed by the icon instead of repeating icons.
Show that a card will be played if dropped using a growing glow instead of a vibration.

Changelog 2024-04-10 - Better tutorial

Dear players!

We are happy to release a new version of Dawnmaker’s demo today. Based on the feedback with received from playtests, we’ve improved the overall experience of the tutorial, with the intent of making it both easier to understand and follow, and to make it a more satisfying and rewarding moment.

Here’s the breakdown of all the changes since the last release (2024-03-21):

Quality of life

Added a feedback when you gain a new building.
Improved the controls to play cards to allow both drag&dropping and just plain clicking a card.
Added the number of remaining lighthouses to repair in the Eclairium tooltip.
Added the number of remaining turns before running out in the Luminoil tooltip.

Tutorial

Moved the tutorial goals into a more visible box, added a bunch of small effects on them.
Added a tooltip to explain the Smog.
Added many tooltips all around the tutorial to explain the less intuitive things.

Cosmetic

Refactored the end game screens into a single screen.
Added fireworks around the city when you win a game.
Added a button to watch your city after you’ve won.
Added a custom cursor.

Bug report: Alt-tabbing breaks UX control sizing

While alt-tabbing to ask a question about the scraping card, the game messed up rendering on screen. Attempting to Alt-Enter which is standard windows-full-screen/windowed-mode toggle, the game accepts ENTER as "end turn" even though I still had action points left. That's a bit frustrating that there was no way to fix the graphics. (Controls UI was not sized properly for my screen anymore, making it difficult to determine how many resources I had, etc.)...

Scraping card

What's the point of the scraping card? There seems to be a lot of value associated with having high card count in your deck... so removing a card seems like a negative. And for it to take an action point AND reduce your deck size. It seems like a dumb building to build and a dumb card to acquire. So I'm wondering if I'm missing something that makes it (at least) situationally great..?...

tips to the dev

i like the concept, couple of nitpicks 1 its a little too oppressive, even darkest dungeon starts off with relaxing music in the town. 2. the balance is wack, you get punished really hard for filling up your deck and land with junk so theres way to many noob traps in that way. then once you realize that you really dont need to keep building to survive the game falls apart until you realize youve forgetton a key resource like the wonder juice or science. 3. the wonder buildings are huge traps, except the pr...
