The point is though is you leave from janeks and not the cave
I've been trying to recreate this bug myself, based on what other players describe, but I cant recreate it.. what are the steps to create it? ..you leave the cave then go straight back down via the exit? (or via the well?)..
There is a lot of missing information regarding all the steps that need to happen in order for this bug to occur (because simply transitioning between the house and the cave isn't guaranteed to trigger it.. so there's gotta be some other determining factors that causes this bug to happen sometimes).
I have a theory that it may depend on which one of the 3 cave exits spawn, because not everyone encounters this bug (also there will be players who unknowingly dodge this bug by not going back down into the cave).
My guess is that something in an earlier 1.4 RC patch is causing the issue because I remember one of the RC patch notes mentioned an alteration to the way the cave exits spawn (there were supposed to be 3 possible exits and only 2 of them were working)..
I think there must be a 1.4.3 patch coming because some other recent bug reports have been flagged as 'fixed in 1.4.3', so maybe this particular bug will be looked at before that patch drops.
There was coming a patch to fix it and many other bugs but since half of the year there is a silence about it.
How to Rollback to previous save? (ANSWER)
1)just go into your drive
2)go to users then your account where darkwood was installed
3)Go to AppData
4)Go to LocalLow
5)Go to Acid Wizard Studio folder
6)go to darkwood
7)go to 1_4save folder
8)go to the profile you are playing on
9) rename sav.dat to sav.dat_bak (there will be a conflict so first change it to sav.dat1 then sav.dat_bak after step 10)
10)rename sav.dat_bak to sav.dat
You could make a new sav.dat_bak file doesn't matter, BTW if you want to see the locations of all items or give your self more health they can be done through these files
