When does it get good?
So far I've experienced great environments and flavour text but no actual depth, am I missing something? praying this lives up to what I've been told.

Can't speak for anyone else, but for me it really started to click as I moved into higher difficulties with lighter vehicles and weapons.

Particularly in Freelance mode.

Yeah, taking heavy vehicles with big guns is fun, but very straightforward. Lighter vehicles give bigger payout modifiers in Freelance for a reason - you need to play smarter. That's where cover heights, mouseholing, ambushes etc. really come into play.

Using light vehicles forces you to make use of your environment, picking your targets, getting back into cover, flanking and ambushing. Winning the harder campaign levels using light vehicles is incredibly satisfying, in my opinion.
If you play freelance, you need to unlock some of the harder difficulty pilots, especially if you want to use heavy vehicles.

It also depends on what you've been told and your expectations.
its doesnt. And the maps in the campaign just get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. The next to last map is the worst. Ive tried to beat it at least 15 times and had the worst time i've ever had in my entire life.

I actually think the game's problem is the opposite. Not that it's too hard, but that it's too easy most of the time. Especially in freelance mode. Most of the pilots that are available there start the game on a difficulty that is way too easy for the majority of vehicles. Then you get into a situation where you have to walk through an empty city for a couple minutes, destroying all the target structures that are scattered around the corners of the map. I kinda stopped going for those optional targets, because traveling to them is just too boring and takes too much time.
The people on my friendlist only have playtime of like 1-3 hours, at most 5. My guess is that they probably played big stompy mech on easy difficulty and then lost interest before seeing the depth the game can have on higher difficulty situations.

Have you played the campaign on hard?
But I partly agree agree. First maps were too easy (even on hard) The last maps are 1 easy map followed by 1 which is way too hard.

I posted the same sentiment a while ago. While it's never grabbed me emotionally because of the presentation, the action gets good midway through the campaign. I'm not sure if it was by design, but if you just pick the heaviest vehicle for each mission it should be somewhat easier.

I agree that it clicks after the difficulty picks up. Some of the missions I had to try like 15 times when I had to use the tiny vehicles.

That would be because the campaign doesn't actually follow the difficulty ratings of pilots and has fixed difficulty for each level.

There is no alternate difficult for the Campaign. Every level is hand designed. The game's biggest draw is the freelance mode. Campaign is great for getting used to certain loadouts, both straightforward and wacky. Freelance mode has alternate spawn lists, alternate placements, difficulty modifiers from different pilots, it's a completely different experience that is entirely dictated by your loadout.

i'll try it once i beat the campaign. But looks like im now stuck on the last map.
Previous map took me 40 minutes and i didnt think it was fun.
If you're not enjoying what you're doing in the game take a break from it and perhaps come back later. Banging your head against a wall trying to beat a particularly hard mission will just make you dislike the game as a whole. Try out freelance, unlock some stuff, find out what you enjoy playing and at what difficulty levels. If needed even take a break from the game as a whole, come back later, it will still be there. There isn't any reason to force yourself to push through something you don't enjoy doing.

Take some time and mess around in Freelance with the vehicle you're tryin' to clear that campaign mission with. You've got a much more controlled environment there with a lot more levers to pull on to get a feel for its nuances.

This isn't a forever game where you need to bust your ass at every turn to keep up with it. There's no race and no rush.

Nobody is really saying what must be said: there's virtually no story and the objectives are almost always the same past the tutorial missions. It feels like the devs finished all the technical work but never added story.
