Particularly in Freelance mode.
If you play freelance, you need to unlock some of the harder difficulty pilots, especially if you want to use heavy vehicles.
The people on my friendlist only have playtime of like 1-3 hours, at most 5. My guess is that they probably played big stompy mech on easy difficulty and then lost interest before seeing the depth the game can have on higher difficulty situations.
But I partly agree agree. First maps were too easy (even on hard) The last maps are 1 easy map followed by 1 which is way too hard.
There is no alternate difficult for the Campaign. Every level is hand designed. The game's biggest draw is the freelance mode. Campaign is great for getting used to certain loadouts, both straightforward and wacky. Freelance mode has alternate spawn lists, alternate placements, difficulty modifiers from different pilots, it's a completely different experience that is entirely dictated by your loadout.
Previous map took me 40 minutes and i didnt think it was fun.
Take some time and mess around in Freelance with the vehicle you're tryin' to clear that campaign mission with. You've got a much more controlled environment there with a lot more levers to pull on to get a feel for its nuances.
This isn't a forever game where you need to bust your ass at every turn to keep up with it. There's no race and no rush.
