That Lore, lol! That's all I'm going to say as to not spoil it for anyone.

Exactly how is this guy supposed to work? He gets a massive victory bonus but most of it gets eaten by his negative payout multiplier.

He's kinda of a "joke" character. His defining trait is that his difficulty actually goes down until it reaches zero (Time Travel shenanigans I suppose). Also, if you manage to do a run using the Valet, his 0.1x multiplier is negated.

From what I understand every district you do will get easier and easier.

Yeah, but you still have to beat a difficulty 9 map in the Varlet...

I'm really glad the Varlet exists. This game was crying out for a woefully underpowered option and the Mongoose was only half cutting it in that regard.

Maybe it's because he's a massive show off and the enemy gradually realise he's just a random nobody and stop paying him any attention.

I think the idea behind pilots which start at low difficulty and ramp up is that they're competent but have no reputation, thus the enemy presence increases as they deal more damage where as pilots that start at high difficulties or have fixed difficulties already have a fearsome/ fixed reputation.

Thus Johnny Five Aces must have this awesome legend surrounding him, but the actual guy is pretty underwhelming. Hence the difficulty starting high and getting lower.

(This is just my theory of course since a pilot's actual effectiveness is down to the Player.)

If you're going to bother with a joke character + varlet, the auditor is the cakewalk option. The bonus/penalty is negated just like JFA but it's a true bore.

When the object enters the timestream, time begins to correct itself. Let me use this example: Imagine four balls on the edge of a cliff. Say a direct copy of the ball nearest the cliff is sent to the back of the line of balls and takes the place of the first ball. The formerly first ball becomes the second, the second becomes the third, and the fourth falls off the cliff."

Time works the same way.
