Cherub w/0 attack defeated my pyre?

Had a run end sadly because I let a cherub (0/30 stats) get to top level. As it has 0 attack, I assumed (incorrectly) that it would die to my pyre attack. However, it somehow defeated my pyre (which was at 2 health).
Is there a mechanic the cherub has that allows it to do damage? I thought it only got eaten and added health/spikes to the enemy that ate it, not do damage as well?

One of the enemies that he can spawn adds spikes if eaten, which i believe he can eat, so it's entirely possible he got spikes.

Cael will enhance units with spikes as well. It's possible reflected damage hit it
