Events are disappointing
The events can be categorized into good ones and bad ones. The bad ones give you these two options:

A) Take this risky/self-destructive thing with you. ALL IN, BALLS DEEP.
B) Nothing. Cancel the event and miss out.

Which feels pretty bad. I get it, some people have gambler blood and like big risk/reward stuff... but I prefer a more reliable/safe approach. Which the game seemingly does not cater to in that regard at least.

For that reason, I'm avoiding them where possible.

I have only done two runs but I've seen several (at least 3 or 4) events that offer a powerful boon with no drawback. In fact I've seen more of that than the ones you are complaining about. I also love how you did ONE initial run and ran here to complain having seen 1% of the game's events. So gaming.

Oh, certainly. I'm just talking about my first impression and what I've experienced so far. But let's set aside the quantity for a moment. Let's say it's just 2 events: 2 too many. There should be at least an option to get something small out of it. Anything feels better than "You get nothing; you lose. Good day sir".

Those are the Titan events right?

I don't want to spoil anything but I think you'll change your mind even on those events later. For example, and this will be a small spoiler just a heads up...

but there is a relic I got at the start of a run that allowed any purgable/black cards to play for 0 cost. Great! Then I ran into a Titan event where I could get an incredible boon but be saddled with a card that made all my summons +1 more expensive unless I played it every round to purge it... but when that card cost ZERO that WAS no drawback! And I was able to put freaking Titanskin 5 on a unit (with effectively no drawback). So yeah, there is a LOT going on in the game.

Yes, those. But also the candle mage (forgot his name). He's not as big of a problem as the others, but I'm often times not really in the mood to deal with his shenanigans.
My favourite "Risky" choice so far was a buff for all my units but my pyre gets set to 1 current hp. Thought i'm fine unless i leak some enemy when the flying boss next fight decided to shoot the pyre from the outside as i didn't knew about the new mechanic of attacking the pyre from the room below it if there are no troops there XD
(though that event does not rly fit in OTs category as you could alternatively have chosen +25 hp for the pyre + full heal)

I've only had 2 or 3 events that had a drawback tied to them. And in all honesty, the drawbacks weren't that detrimental at all thusfar.

I gained some the Entropic Crystals blight card in exchange for slotting a Triple Stack upgrade on my Spike of the Banished.

Spike of the Banished then gave 9 valor times X, X being the cost of energy I used for it. It was extremely well worth taking on the blight card. Which costed 2 energy to play, in order to deny its detrimental effect. But I also had an artifact that reduced the cost of Blights and Scourges to 0 (Sinner's Salve). So that made dealing with it even easier.

I also took on Savage Shackles in exchange of giving my Front Line unit (Avenger at the time) 5 Titan Skin. Which was absolutely worth it. Savage shackles, even without Sinner's Salva, only costed 1 mana to play. 5 titan skin caused my Avenger to take 5 less damage from all sources. Then I found and gave him a Titanite upgrade to further reduce incoming damage by half and duplicated him so I had two really decent tanks for two floors.

So, so far, I can't say I really have any issue with the events that have risk associated with them. The boon you gain from them is often very much worth whatever drawback comes with it.

Playing through the game exactly one time and through just the tutorial no less and then proclaiming events are disappointing seems extremely premature.
Memnarch May 21 @ 11:24am
You played for 15 minutes and then immediately went to the steam forums? You're actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pathetic, OP. Please go outside and do us all a favor and
I didn't care for them last time and they seem to be exactly the same this time. Unfortunate. StS also had some where you'd just decline and keep walking, but MT1 felt like there were far more like that, with a minority that would just outright win you the run if you find them at the right time.

I agree, compared to the first game the new events feel very weak and prohibitively costly. Out of 7 or 8 encounters I've skipped all but one, just because they generally felt a lot more like a burden instead of a benefit.

Not only that, but it is not always explained what you're being offered in terms of interface. For example: I got offered Titanskin (what is that? yeah, only later I found out) for a massive downside. There is no tooltip explaining how Titanskin works specifically on the event screen. This looks like an interface oversight that puts a new player in a situation where something unexplained is offered for a massive downside. Or maybe there is a tooltip, and I'm just blind, idk. Couldn't find it playing on a gamepad.

Alright. To all those who've judged me because I didn't play enough to share more than a first impression: I've played for nearly 5 hours now. Several runs. And my impression did not change.

I just encountered a few more interesting ones, but all in all I'm still viewing event nodes as something to avoid on the tracks. For the reason stated.

That's a good way to put it. Sometimes that burden could be worth bearing, sure. But a burden it is. Again, if an alternative would be offered, that wouldn't be an issue.

It is not unusual that, in this kind of games, events list a bail-out option but no one is supposed to take it. It's just there for "academic" reasons. (When events are supposed to be good, those with drawbacks will allow bail-out even though generally you won't choose it in almost every situation.) It's not really an option. Just take the "risk".

OP have no idea of what they are talking about. I am quite enjoying the events ive been activating from the pool. To my delight i found a cult of the lamb event that gave a red crown and two minions from it.
Guy tries one run and already complains... why? Like what is the point?
