I was under the same impression. Then I figured that even if that was the case, using it to get rid of 3 train stewards would be a good use. Choose box, choose 3 train stewards for it, then remove the box, which removes the train stewards with it.
Only as I did that, I learned the the box itself was a unit lol. Unironicaly, I kept it because shortly after doing this, I was able to obtain a room card that specifically buffs train stewards. I also got to dupe the box, so I had 2 boxes that both summoned up to 3 train stewards. Which each got buffed up by the room card.
Stuff like this is why I love Monster Train so much lol. you can do the goofiest yet cool things.
Also since the Jack in the Box itself is a 0 cost unit, this means you can stuff extremely expensive units into it, then cheat them out with the Jack in the Box.
