What, were you expecting a gritty realistic first person shooter?
As far as overtuned enemies go, I beat the demo on my second run, taking trials as standard for most of it. The main problem I had towards the end is that I was drowning in over a thousand gold and could literally not spend it fast enough. It seems like about the same difficulty the OG Monster Train was, tbh.
A demo usually demonstrates the game in a nutshell. So I can see it's the same as the first game which I already own and nothing more. This does not encourage me to buy this product. So what is the point of this demo?
No, obviously this couldn't "just be DLC" for the original monster train. Little known fact, developers need money to be able to keep developing games, and DLC (which would likely have to be cheap to entice purchases anyways which would NOT justify the sheer amount of development time they seem to be putting into all the new factions and mechanics) would likely not sell as well as a new title since Monster Train is 5 years old and most people have moved on from that title by now.
If it's not for you, that's great, but don't be disappointed that this isn't instead a cheaper add-on to and older title, that's disingenuous.
Also the art seems a bit downgraded, everything looks like melted crayons(Like more than the melted remnant!).
Equipment: Each ally unit has an equipment slot you can fit with unique equipment cards that change how they play, such as giving them revenge triggers or automatically activate situational resolve triggers or lower the cooldown timer of unit abilities.
Abilities: Certain units have active abilities that can be enabled manually and have cooldowns, such as inflicting a unit's damage twice to all enemies, or immediately pushing a unit to the front of the line with some extra buffs.
Plus other features I didn't mention like your Pyre Heart, which also have multiple different variants to their HP and Damage and come with their own passive benefits and drawbacks.
None of these things were in the original game and are all new mechanics with all new cards and synergistic systems.
Even just with base mechanics, the set-up phase at the beginning of each encounter is new, and that's not even covering all the new keywords like Valor and Shift, and new effects like Pyregel.
To show the new features ? To appeal to players who didn't play the first game ? I'm pretty sure you are smart and already figured that out which makes me wonder why did you post this thread in the first place ?
Corruption deals X dmg a turn (doesn't reduced)
The pyro gel (increase all dmg taken by X)
Valor Gives +X atk and also restores armour to X if in the front position.
Floor buff that effect the floor with a passive effect
Equipment that modifies a unit (effectively a single use buff spell, in which only one can be applies at a time per unit)
Pyre heart types (gives a modifer to the run by decreasing atk and hp for the heart in exchange for another effect)
The previously mentioned dragons hoard.
There will be other things presumably added for the future factions as well.
Potentially in the future they could drop the original 5 factions as a paid dlc in the future (they would likely need to rebalance the card and characters for the new game though)
I was in the same boat, except that I got the dragon whose attack is buffed by gold, so he was hitting for over 150. And I made another duplicate of it.
I just can't understand people who see nothing new in this game. Valor is highly versatile, being both an attack buff and automatic fully regenerated armor every turn.
The random events tend to be bigger and wilder, too. The returning version of Dante gives the player more control and more opportunities for power spamming.
This is not a completely different game, it's a sequel and does what all good sequels do. Keep the core concept, add in new ways to make the original idea fun, continue the story if it exists.
GAME 2 IS LIKE FIRST ONE!!! I DISLIKE!!!
anything new?
It gives you a feel for the game. It lets you see and experience what the game will be and what to expect from it.
Did you enjoy it? Then you will be happy purchasing the game to get the FULL experience. Did you not like it? Then you know you can just pass on the game.
Trying to take a knock at this demo is wildly ignorant. I wish all demos were as good as this was. Veilguard has a 'demo' and all it is, is just the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ character creator lmao
Obviously it's going to be similar, it's a sequel, but it's a bit too similar. I like the idea of room upgrades and equipment. But is it enough really?
I'll reserve judgment until it's finished though.
