The Son killed them all and severely injured Tony, they were just all holed up in that room. Tony didn't do anything to them.

in each of the boss fights with the son, the tiger is the only one who dashes past you without a care in the world. Keep in mind that Tony doesn't use weapons, so in reality, it probably resembled him charging the son and he got clipped and kept running.

Incidentally, The Son is also the body under the tarp as you come out of the bulding as The Detective. There was such a big gap between the two missions, it took me a second to remember that and put it together.

he most likely didn't die due to the vest and kept running to his friends, found his friends and tried to take them to safety but sadly got caught

Yeah, just replayed the last level again, the giant tiger is the only one that doesn't leave a corpse when you kill them, so that's definitely what happened, Tony got clipped and just decided to try to drag his friends to safety and wait it out instead.

No, the canon is

The Soldier, 1985
Jake, 1988
Richter, 1988
Jacket and Biker, 1988
The Bodyguard, 1991
The Fans and The Son, 1991
The Writer and the Detective, 1991
The Soldier and Richter, 1991 (this is the very end of the HL timeline, both of their final appearances happen more or less simultaniously)

Well, yes and no. certain chapters are set directly after the events of the first one, and then others before.

Basically, anything involving the fans/detective/writer/etc is after the events (DIRECTLY after) and anything involving the soldiers is in the past.

Soldier dies before 88 and the events of the first game.

Oh, yeah, I guess that last appearence of his is dated 1988? I dunno, it's a little hard to put together the timeline since there's no dates listed on the level select menu, and you can't access cutscenes directly. I'm guessing he died in the crossfire of anti-Russian protesting like what happened in the Jake comic?

So....Is Beard just Beard still? Or is he Brian/Soldier/Store Clerk/Pizza Guy/Bartender/Thereasonyoucantfindajob?

Remember how there is mention of an event that happened in San Francisco? Then in the comics, the protestors are saying that they won't accept another San Francisco event? During the scene "Casualties", San Francisco is nuked. Beard/Soldier's convenience store is located here and he passes before the events of HM1. This event happens in 1988. The clerks you see in the first Hotline are part of Jacket's hallucinations.
