Level editor thoughts. No custom music?
-You will not be able to use your own music for the levels, this would be too problematic due to the likeliness of copyright infringements, sorry. The music from the first game will likely not be available either due to the fact that we only licensed the songs for one game.

After reading this on the blog I was pretty disappointed. The campaign I have been fleshing out for a while simply won't be complete without some tracks from Megadrive's 198X AD album. So here is the question I want to ask the devs, but I don't know how to contact them or if they will even listen.

"I heard we can't use custom music in our campaigns. Thats pretty sad. But (and this is hypothetically speaking) what if somone were to enter their files and add music for their personal use? Like if that person wanted to use their own track, could they theoretically take that track, rename and replace it with a track already in the game, then select that track for use with the custom level? Then what if the developer of the custom level suggested that the people who play the level use that custom track? It's technically not breaking any copyright laws."

Thoughts on this? If I were to create my campaign and provide a link to my custom tracks that I "totally didnt download off youtube and cut to size", or at the very least, suggest the music they should add to the game. Would that be 'wrong'?

You can, if u managed to convice Jonatan that its legal. He wants documents to prove that using custom music is safe

Yeah. I mean think about it. Even if custom music isn't part of the package there are ways to jury rig your game into playing the custom music you want.

So basically stuff like game maker and RPG maker shouldnt exist? What a tortured logic man.

Well, you could always leave a link in the description of the level on the workshop with a mod that replaces the song used ingame. But it might be too much trouble to go through...

I know it would. But the music would be key to what I am trying to create. You have to admit, one of the biggest draws hotline miami has is it's bangin sound track that fits in with the story line and level design. They picked the soundtracks to go with the levels they had designed (Remorse with the henchman level and The way home with beard's final level are good examples), I just think it's a good idea if you really want your level to carry the same weight the OG games have.
