Netflix funded sequel of the Valiant Hearts The Great War. Ingame artstyle is virtually indistinguishable from the first game and historical facts and collectibles feature also return. From the quick glance, one might think this is the same level of game as the first. But sadly, the plot took a degrade in quality, new characters like George(this guy NEVER take his fullface flight gear off, meaning we don't even know which one he is in the group photo at the end) and Ernst are barely involved in the central plot and most of the episodes onwards the middle point of chapter 2 after the brothers' reunion feel like a filler, the armistice of 1918 is told in the most anticlimactic way possible and they so rushed the main character's demise it almost felt disrespectful to them. The length of the game is also too short. Now, admittedly, the first game wasn't super long either, but this one's got only a third of its playtime(2~3h). Bugs and glitches, I haven't encountered anything serious APART FROM THAT ONE THING I WILL TALK ABOUT LATER ON, I can't tell if it's related to high framerates, but dog, Walt, gets stuck too often when crawling through narrow spaces and when told to grab objects, causing softlocks. Other visual bugs like invisible German MG bullet streams and white stream smokes, Freddie stuck in his position even after James got rid of obstacles are noticeable but ignorable. For those who care about achievements, this one should be an easy 100%, you don't even need to collect all the collectibles, and missable achievements are not as annoying as the previous game(I administered surgical death to Karl too many times in that one).

While Coming Home is an unnecessary sequel that fell short, I wouldn't slam it as an unwelcoming. It may not be the sequel everyone hoped out to be, but for people like me who longed for more of Valiant Hearts franchise it is still a worthy visit.

From March 28, 2025, game's rendered unplayable past the sixth episode of the first chapter, because of faulty files Ubisoft uploaded. People do downloads of old versions every time, whether it is for stability/performance, moddability, or removed/altered contents but requiring reverts ONLY TO SIMPLY PROGRESS from AAA company is absolutely unacceptable, no matter how unimportant and minor this game is to them. The fact they still didn't provide a fix after a month is astounding and provides yet another example of why Ubisoft took the EA's spot as the worst big name in the industry. I enjoyed the game, but till this issue is fixed, this review will remain as thumbs down one. This requires minimum effort, they have no excuse.

As someone who adored the original Valiant Hearts, this sequel is a letdown. Coming Home feels like a watered-down echo of what made the first game so powerful. The emotional storytelling is thinner, the characters aren’t as memorable, and the pacing feels rushed. Gameplay is overly simplistic—more like tapping through a history slideshow than playing a meaningful adventure.

The original struck a rare balance between heartfelt narrative, historical context, and clever puzzles. Here, most of that depth is gone. The story barely has time to breathe, and key moments that should carry weight are glossed over or delivered with little impact. It feels like the game is just going through the motions, without ever letting the player connect to what’s happening.
