If it's not clean, just boil it in a campfire. It'll use the bowl up when you drink it but it's a good cheap disposable source of water if you didn't hoard berries.
Wooden bowls and hide pouch water sacks early game. Click on any water source and cooknat campfire or boil with a pot for hide sack. Wood bowl gets consumed water sack doesnt and is refillable amd has 3 uses.
Rain collector is mid game less materials. Make like 3 near your own base for yourself. It doesnt rain consistently until you get the rain items from one of the workbenches. Mostly own use.
Wells are true endgame. A few can supply a village. Renewable water source amd clean.
