Or Windows 8 64-bit. I often see a lot of relatively enw titles stating they can function on Windows 7, but nothing about Windows 8.

After seeing the forums full of people claiming 'Eurofighter Typhoon' does not, in fact, run under Windows 7/8, even though sTeam decalred it would, I'm wary of purchasing this.

It seems to run fine on Win 8.1 x64, but the Launcher will crash when the hardware detection stuff is run.

Note that gog versions are modified to work with newer systems. Steam versions arent always made to work on newer systems.

I was a bit unclear in my description of the problem, apologies. In the Launcher app, there's a section where you can let it benchmark your machine, clicking on that will cause the crash. Steer clear of that, and you should be fine in that regard.
With regards to your issue, I am still uncertain what's happening there, although it seems that letting the launcher detect your GPU (in the video tab) and making sure it's selected seems to address this for some people.

It is ok for me with win 8.1 x64 bit. You need the FSO 372 RC2 SSE / the wxlauncher 0.9.4 / 2014 mediavps. but before you must have a legal copy of FS2, like the steam version. After installing your steam version of this game you need to make a copy nam freespace 2. It is in this new folder you can intall FSO et the other open programms.
