Game is too easy, even in Inferno
I started the game in nightmare and the first bosses where legitimately fun but... I switched to inferno after like 10h and the game is WAY too easy. You can do most bosses without being hit (so the inferno one shot mechanic is useless), it gets easier and easier... I didn't even use a single potion. And I'm not even using the best nodes, I still use the lvl 1 to "nerf me"... I'm a bit disappointed to be honest, Ys VIII was way better, and Ys VI, Origins, ect were a lot more challenging too... If I never lose in a game, it's not fun

I'd somewhat agree with you, the game being like this is a bit too easy if you compare to older installments, heck even Ys IX provided me with a bigger challenge with all the enemies having bullet-hell attacks. BUT maybe you're just too good of a player and I'd say this game could still provide more challenge to other people, especially if they are not familiar with Ys series' combat mechanics.

To the rest of us mere mortals the game is still very challenging. Well, I supose that's why the Inferno mode exists, to ppl that are really good at it, and if you're finding it easy then it's not fullfilling it's purpose.

I'm not particularly "extremely good" at games but with how easy the block mechanic is, it trivializes everything. The only attacks that can hit you are the blue ones because you have to sprint to avoid them. And even if one of your characters gets hit and die, you have infinite revives (doesn't matter if you have 1 hp or max hp if almost everything one shots you). Inferno mode should have disabled revives

All the team based Ys games are pretty easy IMO. Flash Guard or Flash Evade makes all the games trivial for me. Especially Ys 9 with Flash Guard and White Cat Cerberian burst... Once I got that move, it was spam flash guard back up and spam that skill

Some bosses in chapter 7 and above are better, you can't just keep guard you have to time it for perfect guard

Bruh , i put it on normal and die frequently on bosses 🤣 good for you though , i guess all these years of playing cozy farm games got to me

Got one game over during the escape from the big guy but has camera issues and sprint doesn't work.I'm even on very easy mode on the console version. Not sure I'm rushing this part the game where the game over shows up if I get caught by the big guy.Not sure this game has any main missions like other trails of cold steel series.

I'm doing well through the 2nd highest difficulty, but fighting most bosses without being hit?!?!

My hats off to you, especially since a certain sand boss (justttt post demo) was one-shotting me until I figured out the mechanic lol.

That being said, I have noticed the game getting easier and easier, so it's very possible you ruined your Inferno experience for yourself by switching to the highest difficulty after the game's slow(er) power crawl in the first several hours.

I'm playing on Nightmare and have died a few times each on a couple of the early bosses.

I don't have any complaints about the difficulty; I wouldn't call it hard, but it's not too easy either.

I agree with the fact that they're getting easier and easier in their respective difficulty levels from VII to X, but Nightmare is still the sweet spot for me and i'm sure you'll find one that suits you, only masochists would complain.

VII Normal = VIII Hard = IX Nightmare = X Inferno
(also depends on the affinity you have on Party system vs Duo system)

The fact that the latest Ys entries are also grind-less means that you can make the game too easy in any difficulty mode, for this i tend not to use status/level increase items each time.

Yeah, the infinit reviving makes it too easy. On most bosses you can even just hold down the revive button once your character dies and most bosses do no another attack befor you manage to revive the character. Maybe they should have limited the rivives you get per boss fight on the higher difficulties.

this game needs a beyond lunatic difficulty level
Michael K Nov 12, 2024 @ 4:13pm
Honestly when you understand that this game is all about blocking and how easy it is... well it just doesn't have that much challenge to it. That being said I think a lot of bosses (early game at least) are also poorly designed mechanic wise.

fundamentally wrong. this game is about cycling skills to get that skll cost reduction.

hell you dont even need to touch the block button as Karjas skills with "perfect guard" can trigger the counter attacks and build up revenge gauge.

the off characters hp/sp regeneration is so high by the time you get done using the sp of one of them they should be mostly to fully healed and full sp on the off character. with it caping out at 75% skill cost reduction you can spam out even the most expensive skills or the duo skills for nothing eg the last skill you get costs 200 sp normally but you can get that down to 50 allowing you to cast it 4 times instead of 2

ill say this. Guard spam is noob mode. skill spam is how the games meant to be played.

yes that's why on most bosses I let the boss kill me to retry the fight without dying, at least it's a bit more challenging this way
