All you can do is keep playing until you finally start unlocking the other playable characters. Also invest in offense increasing items via the in-game shop. The faster you level up multi-shot for example means you can keep fighting even in the late part of your run (20 minutes or more in Endless).

Don't forget to level up your HP too and save your heals for when necessary since you may not always get a heal to roll in the in-game shop and late game items will be very expensive compared to early game.

I just wish there was some way to increase my stats after each game. Like with other souls like games. it just feels like after a certain point there's so much enemies and projectiles on the screen that its unplayable.

The thing is the other characters are your permanent powers. For example if you get Nyx unlocked, you will have the third best character in terms of sheer offense once you get Nyx going with powerups. Bastion also becomes a powerhouse after unlocking it and giving it offensive power-ups during a run.

You basically can use unlocked characters to unlock even more stuff compared to starting out with Epsilon.

Here is some quick tips:
  1. Select your favorite character.
    • Mine is :), cause you can kill enemies if you're far away from them.
  2. Learn startegies for each character.
  3. Lock the important upgrades/+20 HP.
    • Lock the good upgrades (like multi-shot) so you can save them for later. Recommended locking the +20 HP and only get it when you're low HP.
  4. Use manifest!!
    • Basically the manifest is where you can buy things with your stars. Unlike the normal one (buy with coins), who select 3 random upgrades, the manifest lets you buy all the upgrades, each of them cost 1 star and gets expensive the more you buy.
Hope theses tips helps ya!

The slime is awful, but nowadays I get past it by playing with characters that can avoid it more easily like Bastion or a certain "secret" character, that being :).

I personally like to use Drain, a manifest ability over at the Tab menu; Doesn't make it any less annoying, but certainly lets you reduce the cleanup you have to do after the boss starts splitting.
