Why the hell is Gilroy such a stupid fight?
Seriously, was having fun with all the bosses until this forced parry only fight as it seems. Miles wide hurt boxes, fast attack speeds, no real time to ene use Nola or anyone but the owl and parries.

What I did with that fight was bait his 2-combo swing attack. get kinda close to him, when he swings, back away but not too far, and he'll try a second swing. I got him into a kind of loop with this for most of the fight. Otherwise best to generally take it slow.

Use Eviscerate on Yolvan. It ignores his invincibility and staggers stupid quick, allowing for BIIIG Nola damage. Also does pretty good damage on its own. Also do what the person above mentioned, bait his two-combo attack, he usually puts up invincibility pretty quickly for most of his attacks, so I basically only used Eviscerate until he went down to hit him with Nola and Lita's Blazing Fist. Also used Relics to increase the damage I dealt while he was staggered, such as the one that increases Damage on Ground, the one that increases Damage to Enemies with Status Effects (Blazing Fist), and the one that increases damage to enemies who are staggered.
To be fair, parry windows are pretty generous in this game, so parry-only might just be the most straightforward way of beating him.

Unless you don't like and tend to stay away from parry mechanics in general.

I just stood in his face with the drill on and parried every time he attacked, because actually trying to play smart and dash through and behind him when he attacks has a very good chance of making him autocorrect and do his extremely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up hitbox followup swing and hit you no matter what. After 100%ing the game I think the first Gilroy fight might be the worst in the game.

I thought he was pretty alright. Quick, but challenging. Being one-shot was pretty rude despite my max hp upgrades, but eh. I can see people being upset by him.

Just 100% the game on hard just a few minutes ago and yea the fight was really dumb, until i learned how to absolutely farm his ass with freeze, counter, scythe primary, and blast gun primary. game then became fun again.

I played all game after I obtained broom lady in mage academy useing her pressure ability, this 2 tornados, super op stuff, you just dash and lett the pressure damage do the rest with ocassiona sprincle of Yovan spoture brakeing shots, just dash, dash, dash, nothing can pin you down and no need to ever stop.

For me this fight actually woke me up because all bosses leading up to this were, let's be honest, way too easy (as they arguably should be at the start of the game but still). He was the first actual fight.

As other people have said, the drill is excellent against him. I'd recommend using it along with the autofiring shock owl and blazing fist for some extra damage output. Just dodge any time he does shadow orbs or the charge, and mash parry (or dodge) when he shoots burning swords.

Wait, which Gilroy fight are we talking about here, because if it's the second and third one, Lorna absolutely shreds him with Light Show.

I gotta say I didn't have much trouble with any of the lategame fights I see some having issues with. Are people not abusing counters and iframes from attuner arts at all?

yeah the fight is pretty annoying if we're talking about the last one

It kinda does force you to use parry if you get stuck between dmg pillars while he attacks but the parry window is pretty forgiving

You think this boss is bad wait for Luiseach or how shes called, tons of HP fast and at 80% HP stats spamming tanky healing bots. I really cant believe this is the same studio that made something as amazing as Ender Llilies, the boss designs in this one are lazy as is the difficulty setting of increasing the enemies HP and Damage. Making bosses and enemies into one hitting sponges is the worst way to design a challenging game.
I beat this guy with no parries, just careful dodging, but it did take a few tries for me to get the hang of this guy and not get hit most of the time.

The worst attack is the one where he parries you since I have a tough time reading that quickly enough and if I'm in the wrong spot when he does it then I'm basically done, but I found that staying on the ground and using scythe worked well for his flying phase and helped keep me at a safe distance from that move.

The orb attack is a tossup, I usually just dodge slightly behind him and most of the time that works. If he does the circle pattern then I'd still be close enough to him that he misses (usually).

Protective Carapace, and later Impact Carapace, are hella fun brother, and they give you more opportunities to attack than a dodge even (besides dealing damage themselves)
not to mention that compared to EL the parry now has more generous window. from central stratum onwards, parry is an invaluable tool that'll make things a lot easier and a lot more enjoyable
