A way to escape an opponent's combo?

So I'm playing story mode and arrive at the bit with Osori Puppet Master VS Snake Guy and anytime the Snake Guy makes contact he goes into a ten second long combo followed by a five second cut scene - at this point in time, while snake guy is pounding on me, I may as well go and make a sandwich.

Is there some way to escape these combos?

Try the exchange tree jutsu LT or L2 and by the way block the attack before he gets you with RT or R2. Those are buttons on game bad RT + LT when you play witch xbox gamepad and L2 + R2 when you play witch a playstation gamepad. If you play witch keyboard you have to look at the launcher before you start the game.

I had to do some onlline research - Namco's manual is really vague only covers advancing through the menu screens.

I also found some very basic 'Tutorial' tips in one of Naruto's menu screens.

I've found that as long as I keep my Chakra powered I can teleport out of a combo assault using Left Trigger or if I can anticipate (and time it properly) I can quickly press Right Trigger at the same time as Blue X button which does a deflect that stuns the opponent as he's attempting to initate the combo.

There's also Right Trigger plus Red B button but I think that's just a quick knock back attack if the opponent is neither attacking nor guarding.
