Will there ever be a Tides of Numenera 2?
Tides of Numenera had things I really didn't like about it, like the persuasion resource pools getting used up but with quests that punish you for resting so you can't renew it, didn't like that.

But overall the game is really good and the story grew on me. By the end I was hooked and wanted more.

Lots of depth and world building.

inXile - forget the messy, emotional break-up with the Backers. Water under the bridge.

just don't kickstart next time and avoid the whiners ....

Start anew and pop out another gem like this one !

Yeah I feel like this is a really good experimental game that laid some solid foundations, so what didn't work well could be improved on and what did could be expanded on with this incredibly interesting setting they've built. There's so much potential here.

Plus after the huge success of Baldur's Gate 3 we know there's a growing market for this sort of thing. When this game was released it was a little niche because the genre had been dead so long but between Obsidian and Larian the market's been revived and revitalized.

My grip with ToN is that it doesn't fully embrace the ruleset. Numenera (and the cypher system) is a very unique set of rules that changes from the overused D20 of dungeons and dragons or the oldschool D100.

One of key differences is the lack of HP. The video game added HP in fear of putting off players. I think that was a mistake.
In the tabletop, you have 3 pools that act as your action points and your HP. You die when all 3 bars go to 0 (and you get penalties everytime one of them gets to 0, like if agility goes to 0 you can't move, but you can still act).
This makes a game where every action has weight, so the cyphers are really something that you want to use to manage those stats and keep them up.
Then there is the building, the game has only 3 foci. And not the most interesting ones (nor the most versatiles, like picking the shield with a nano has no real meaning, you'll want always pick that on a glaive).
That makes character building very bland, as most of the uniqueness of the character development comes from.
In the game you can pretty much only make either a warrior, some kind of rogue or a mage. Whereas in the tabletop you can mix your glaive with some caster foci to make them shoot fireballs from their weapons, or turn your nano into a rampaging werewolf at night. There are dozens of foci in the core rulebook, but only the 3 basic ones got implemented... Talk about limitation.

Of all the modern cRPGs that claims the legacy of the old it is the most lackluster of them. Indeed, I think what dragged it down was trying to emulate Planescape instead of being its own thing. Disco Elysium was better in that respect and more likely to get a sequel.

I doubt that even if they did return to this setting, that we'd get a quality isometric, party based RPG. Seems they are on the clicky path of ARPG twitchiness - based upon their recent offering. Too bad.

A welcome first step would be (would've been) a "Director's Cut" with all the planned content added back in!

Thats not how game development works, there is no "directors cut" because directors dont make games, teams-of-developers do.. and you cant simply put in an half-finished level like you could with a half-finished movie scene

Don't InXile have previous regarding releasing "Director's Cuts"? I believe Colin added additional stuff post release. I do agree with you however that it's probably too difficult to retroactively add specific content back into a game like Torment, it's just that some of the cut locations looked awesome. It makes more sense to do what Stygian Software are doing in regards to their Underrail sequel, if they plan on more Tides content down the line that is...

I think they first should patch and update this game. It still contains bugs and other issues.
