Tide values in Mere interface

I've just been in my first Mere and I had trouble understanding the Tide values displayed on the left. First there's only three, which is obviously not all. Second, when I select an action that affects a particular Tide the corresponding Tide value seems to go... down? Are they a resource, am I draining my own Tides to influence the events in the Mere? But I could easily select the Tides that are not listed there (there was Indigo, Red and Gold, and I could select the Blue option no problem)... I try to avoid any spoilers, so - are those numbers going to be explained later and I should not worry about them now or am I missing something?

Basically, don't worry about them; they don't affect gameplay in the slightest, in my own experience.

I'd still like to understand what the designers thinking was to include them there. Some unfinished feature or what. Even if they practically play no role, what was their role supposed to be?

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but your dominant Tide(s) can potentially affect the story quite a bit, mostly by opening up certain dialogue options, like changing how certain Tide-sensitive creatures react to you. It also affects the ending, along with your other choices. It's your D&D-style alignment, basically.

What mere are you in, specifically?

It was the one during Matkina's quest. I am talking about the three tides that are displayed on the left side of the Mere interface. Are those really my three dominant tides? because I thought I have been increasing blue way more than red, and there was only indigo (15) gold (8 i think) and red (6) listed. Throughout my actions in the Mere the indigo points dropped to 12.

(also, I have Oom in my party so maybe this does not display without Oom?)

Missed this, sorry. Also been a while since I played, so I'm not 100% sure about that mere. Basically you can see your alignment in dialogue and in the character screen, the funky shape on the left -- it changes colours depending on your dominant alignment and can be a blend of multiple colours at once. Oom can and does show additional information about the Tides including which way a given dialogue option will shift your personal Tides and (I think) locked dialogue that requires a specific Tide amount to access.

The different meres do have unique mechanics unto themselves -- I don't think I remember the interface you're talking about. We're talking about the illustrated book section when you're repairing Matkina's memory, the one where you're Tash in the village with Matkina?

Yup, that's the one. To the left of the scene description text there were three balls of colour red, indigo and gold with numbers next to them.

You don't need an account to post images on imgur. It won't be on there forever, but it doesn't need to be.
