I really did enjoy the text, myself, but... I like games that like the grandaddy of them all, Planescape:Torment. It was the first CRPG to have a substantial story, told in a most entertaining way, and it is the game that any self-respecting CRPG player must play and enjoy. And it has a pile of text. It got great reviews, and sold quite poorly, but its reputation has legs and it has sold VERY well, both in the original, which Linux users can play
It's here on Steam, in a new enhanced version which runs in any resolution up to 4K, has all the bugs swatted, and the text cleaned up. It's $19.95, and you will get FAR more than your money's worth from it.
Back to the original question. It's a terrific game, but if there had been half as much text, so it was a novella instead of a big novel, they could have spread their resources more intelligently and not have the biggest area in the game, in which you will spend about half as much time as it took to get there. So far so good, until you find that there's maybe 60 minutes of gameplay left. It was a bad, bad idea to include that much text, which, again, I consider having been very well-written and very enjoyable. But the devs quickly discovered that nobody was watching the game on Twitch, because of all that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ text.
If it's on sale, grab it; you'll have a lot of fun. As long as it lasts. The ending is pretty well written and a bit surprising, and you, as ever in this game, have several choices to make at that point, which definitely give different finishes to the game. It's worh $20, with the previous caveats. You might, if you have other games that you have fun with, just wait for a sale for >$20. You probably won't regret it.
It's not what the kickstarter promised, the story is weak but the setting is well established, while the characters are paper thin though often amusing despite that. This is most certainly not another PS:T but if you go in with low expectations it'll be a good game.
And I also reccomend to get the Planescape Torment as well.
