Helping Erritis (Endgame Spoilers)
I found a doctor for Erritis in the bloom, who told me about the audience. When I fought the first castoff and went into the labyrinth, I went to try and sever the audience from Erritis, and he told me it was too late, and I had no option to sever the audience. There was no way to bring the farm boy back, that aspect died.

I went back to a prior save and went into the labyrinth before the fight with the first castoff, and talked to the erritis reflection there and talked with the audience. They gave me an option to burn brighter and make Erritis more powerful, at the cost of a shorter lifespan, or to slow down and allow the farm boy to live longer. I chose the second option. I thought this would allow me to save Erritis in the labyrinth.

And yet, when I go into the labyrinth after the fight with the first castoff, Erritis still tells me it's too late, and the audience takes over. I have no option to sever the audience or do anything but watch the farm boy die. Is this a bug? Am I missing something? Did I sleep too often, and that's what kills the farm boy (the audience doesn't let Erritis sleep)?

Does anyone have any idea why I can't save Erritis in the labyrinth?

Did you speak to Erritis after speaking with the audience? I mean the real Erritis, in the real world. I can't say I ran into this, but it sounds like you missed a trigger somewhere. Aside from that, maybe it's a loyalty thing? I had no problem telling the audience to leave him alone and then severing them.

I did talk to him in the real world, there was no special dialogue. I think his loyalty is at "reveres:.

I am fairly sure there was special dialog with Erritis for me whenever I talked to him after the audience. It went something like: Speak to the reflection, speak to the audience, ask the audience to release him/back off, then speak to the reflection who says he feels different. Then speaking to real-world Erritis had him commenting on something changing, or something like that, but I don't exactly recall what he says. It might be a new dialog option or using an old one. Then speaking to him in the Calm allowed me to remove the audience.

Going back to an earlier save, and talking to the audience for the first time, and telling them to back out, does not give any special dialogue with real world Erritis for me.

What's also strange is that "The Lost Shepard" does not appear anywhere in my quest log.

Not sure what's going on. I can give you my save files and you can compare them. The first one is at the start of the Bloom, where you can do his quest from the beginning. The second is after doing it, ready for the final area.
You can get them here[drive.google.com].

Saves are in appdata, LocalLow, under InXile.

This exact thing has happened to me.
* I went through the steps required to speak with the Audience.
* I told them to leave him.
* I talked with him (in The Calm and the real world).
* I brought him with me to the last battle.
* I went to free him and he gets taken over by the Audience.

Further, "The Lost Shepard" has also been removed entirely from the quest lists in my journal.
Is there a fix or work-around for this, yet? This is only /mildly/ irritating because I still have to do another playthrough with Aligern.

Better late than never - did you take Erritis to his alcove in the Valley of Dead Heroes? The glowing one a little ways south of Tantalum.

Yes. That is actually how you acquire his reflection in The Labyrinth to begin with, to be able to talk with The Audience at all.

Fair enough. I think some of it is still available if you have Scan Thoughts, which any class can get with an artifact you can buy in the Bloom. I missed the alcove my first time through but I was playing a nano, so I knew about the Audience the whole time but couldn't finish the quest properly.

Yeah, I played a nano with scan thoughts, too. I already had the intention of getting him to interact with it, as I'd been actively working on getting as many character-related achievements on my first playthrough as possible.

I'll just hope that it works on the 2nd playthrough, where I'll be trying to get the cheevs for becoming the Changing God, Aligern, Erritis (duh), and becoming the Bloom Memovira. Might be other cheevs to check along the way, but that's about it, I think.

Thanks for trying, though. Cheers! :dwarven:

Can't believe people still responded to this!

I never found a solution. I'm sure it's a bug having to do with a completely unrelated choice at another point in the game. Sad to see it was never patched.
