OK. I'm old. How do I "save"?
I couldn't figure out how to exit the game, so I just ctrl+alt+deleted, and ended task.

I'm fairly certain there is a proper way to save and exit. I just couldn't find it. How do I save?

Whaaaat? Since when does this key open a menu with save and exit options in a game?

yea, esc didn't work for me. I spent minutes (maybe even 2 or 3) hunting around the screen for something that would get me some kind of a menu to get out of the game. Ha!

also F5 quicksave, F9 quickload

Look at the right side of your screen, there should be some icons, the cog wheel looking one, at the bottom or very near the bottom of those icons is the game menu where you can access save, load, settings, exit game, etc etc.
Though, it is odd that you are unable to push the ESC key and access said menu o.0
Hope that helps.

Congraduations! You found another bug. Lets see what you won!

"Todays winner is to be award anxiety from not wanting to lose his process, frustration from not being able to figure it out himself when he knows he should, and embaressment from having to ask what he doesn't is a simple task on a forum."

Yeah, as has been said, that should have worked, so you are doing nothing wrong. As has been suggested try quick save and load , F5 and F9 respectively.

Do you have a controller you could try? I'd be interested, and I'd imagine the devs would as well, to see if pressing the start button (or whatever they call it these days) also fails to bring the menu up.

Didn't the Escape menu not work until you got past the prologue?

Just fired it up--Windows 10x64 build 15061--RX-480 8GB, Crimson 17.3.2--and ESC works just fine...;) Brings the system menu right up. Obviously of course, you must be in-game and not watching a cut-scene, et al, to bring up this menu.

yeah that's true. And not be in a 'mere' either. Or falling down...

You know, some people get hit by bugs. It happens. No need to demean the OP.

Naw, no offense taken. I *am* old (that's why I play these kind of games!)

I wonder if it was because I hadn't gotten far enough, I'd only been playing for a few minutes and gotten to the second "room" of the game where the shadow shows up and I have to attack it. Anyway, I definitely thought it was weird!

That's still the prologue, so as Cornugon said...

I haven't checked it personally but that may have just been the issue. I've never had a problem with the escape key working any of the times I've tried it either.

I don't know when was the last time you played a pc game, but this has been a standard since DOS games.

Dude, that was clearly sarcasm.

To be fair, Square-Enix and Steam Greenlight Developers have been trying to standardize "Press Esc to instantly exit the game with no options or 'Are you sure' checks" for the last couple of years.
