Eyes of the Adversary bug?

I'm in the Fifth Eye, looking for the adversary. I've spoken to everyone, and I think I know what to do, but the game doesn't allow it.

I drank all the dodgy drinks and I can see a purple thing floating around. I assume this is what I'm looking for, but I cannot interact with it at all. I can't bring it up when talking to anyone in the tavern either. Dhama let me accuse people before, but the option is gone now.

Anything I can do? Must I reload?

Adversary is a NPC named Malaise (becomes visible when you get close to him) standing to the left of the group., not the purple floating thing.

The Adversary is called Malaise and is standing right next to the 3 guys who gave you the quest.
I always had Perception trained by that point in the game, so MAYBE you need it to see that guy?

Nevermind, you all are correct. I was so focused on the purple thing that I didn't notice.

Ok man now I am freaked out - in current playthrough I cannot see the guy with specialized+ perception lol.
Wtf with this quest.

I had one level of perception, but I think I needed to drink the black ichor to see him. Not sure perception helps?

Sure, being immortal encourages experimentation, but I had been saving the other two experimental drinks (first I tried killed me) as a reward for a job well done. Wouldn't have completed the quest without a spoiler search.
