Is father's Inifere's dialogue just the worst? I didn't understand a word he was saying...

Also clearly a reference to father Inire from The Book of the New Sun. Including eating corpses to gain their memories.

Try to complete all the quests in the area first (especially the one with the girl, resulting in a mere for Iniferes background), a lot of it will start to make more sense.
