This game has nothing in common with diablo.. 3D iso that's all.
& Hopefully.
https://www.diabloii.net/blog/comments/how-diablo-evolved-from-turn-based-to-real-time
Not that it explains the apparent similarity some see.
Not really, Diablo is simply a very popular rogue-like. And rogue-likes are usually turn based. But this is a completely different type of turn based than what Numeria is derived from, wizardry.
Nowadays you have tons of them, I don't know what started it. FTL, Spelunky, Rogue Legacy (Nice wordplay) are similar to Diablo in how they are rogue lites, you've got more traditional ones like Dungeons of Dredmore and absolutely crazy ones like Crypt of the Necrodancer.
Rogue likes have the following:
1. ALWAYS random level generation
2. Almost always turn based
3. Almost always top down isometric
4. Almost always permanent death (In Diablo this is a difficulty level I believe)
5. Some kind of level up system
This game is also awesome so far.
Had other fantastic Roguelikes like Spelunky or Rogue Legacy been released at the same time as Diablo they probably had the same effect.
Anyone who tries to say it's like Diablo apparently has little to no experience with computer games.
Diablo is not a rogue-like. If it doesn't have enforced perma-death then it's not a rogue-like.
I have a Divine Divinity CD lying on a shelf, that lists Diablo II and Planescape: Torment as "similar games" on its back. So such comparisons don't really surprise me anymore. :)
...Of course, DD did have a lot in common with Diablo. TToN certainly doesn't.
But if it really bothers you, Diablo 2 and 3 included perma death as a difficulty level.
