Which to play first ? Tides of Numenera or Torment
From a story point of view : should I play Torment first, because Tides refers to the previous game ?

Its an old game . But well worth playing if you never have. I am not sure however as I have only played a small bit of this game.

Actually the game worlds are in no way connected. Planescape: Torment is based off the old Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting of Planescape.

Numenera is a new creation from Monte Cook made in 2013.

There are easter eggs that reference Planescape: Torment but there are no Story elements.

So it doesn't matter. Planescape: Torment gets a little to get running and still can crash often (Save often)

But You are fine story wise. Not connected.

In fact I already played Planescape Torment for about 3 hours (with the proper mods), but it was 4/5 years ago, so I think I'll start again from the beginning.
I backed the Numenera game when the kickstarter campaign started and completely forgot it until the Steam launch (The dev are 2 years late, if I understand correctly)

Anyway, I just wanted to avoid the possible "cross-spoilers" between the 2 games, and now I'm reassured thanks to your input ! :steamhappy:

There's no relation between Planescape and this one.

Except an occasional Adahn reference and such.

Planescape Torment have a totally different atmosphere, much much better IMO. That is one of these games i can re play countless of times. Writing and story is as good as in numenera, probably better

Lol, Planescape is good but it definitely does not ruin my opinion on other games. For all its greatness, Planescape has bad too.

Dont play Planescape Torment, coz it will ruin your opinion on all games.

Or, play Planescape Torment first and after you finish it, sell your PC and never play any game ever.
♥♥♥♥ this, Xenogears beats the ♥♥♥♥ out of PST's story :p. Although it doesn't have the detail and world building.

I love Xenogears. :steammocking:

I actually do....

Irrelevant, both games are only thematic similar.

Planescape Torment is one of the best games ever made. If you have not played it before I would suggest eventually giving it a try. No rush though. Try this first if you want and wait for it to go on sale somewhere like GOG.com before you pick it up.

Not really, no JRPG do. Most JRPGs are cliche ridden full of meaningless exposition about philosophy the writers have no grasp of.Specially Xenogears, it's philosophy is like a child reading wikipedia and thinking they know anything about the world. All those heavy handed expositions and moralism and repetition of themes because it seem most Japanese are unable to understand a concept unless it's repeated hundred times. If you think PS:T is good is irrelevant, but if you think Xenogears is intelligent you need to read more.

Spoken exactly like someone who has no clue what he's talking about. Xenogears is not great because of themes, philosophy or heavy handed exposition, on the contrary. Some things are just leveraged to forshadow. Maybe you're confusing Xenogears with Xenosaga

Well, actually, Xenogears also has that "what is God" and "what is man" themes going on that's actually pretty similar with Planescape Torment now I think about it.
