This, Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny or Divinity Original Sin?
I know, it's hard to say, since i ask in the forum of Torment, but since i haven't played any of them, neither BG, i don't really know what to expect.

First of all, i have mixed feelings about playing in a group. i played some ARPG like Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn, is the fighting in this game anything like that?

Is this game mainly story driven or is there some point in grinding for example for a nice set (if this exists)?

How is the replayability and does it end after the end of story or is there still something to do (like the torment rifts in diablo)?

Thanks for this reply :)

The game isn't released yet, but from what we've seen from the first part the combat is nothing like diablo. There is also no grind, because the game is mostly story driven. Combat is always related to quests and there are zero "trash" or filler monsters. I really enjoyed tyranny, but it set itself up for a sequel.

Diablo and grim dawn are action rpgs, this is an rpg. So its more like dragon age or witcher but it looks like diablo

I'd recommend getting Planescape: Torment on GOG.com. It still has the best video-game story of all time. I think there was only 1 mandatory fight in that game, and it was a side quest. Tons of dialogue options. Incredibly deep and mature story.

I only suggest this because then you'll know the answer to your question once you play it.

I think this game will be great, but its not Planescape: Torment.. nothing will ever be I suspect.. Infact its so good, that I rather have an enhanced version of that than new games

Are you a german by any chance? I just looked up Planescape: Torment and saw that one of the devs was also responsibile for Das Schwarze Auge, which was the best rpg i ever played, even if this happened like 18 years ago. But the combat-system they had, you could even let the game calculate the fight with a cool animation, THAT is, what i was looking for.

Welp hard to answer this question because first point i dont know you or your taste in video game. (I mean genre is not everything, i meen rpg tend to go dungeon crawling/story driven and graphic go from modern/retro. Some people like strawberry, other like orange you know). And second point game not released yet so cant say if it will be good.

After i have played them all, my order would be; D:OS, This, Tyranny and Pillars.
D:OS got it all, best combat system and great story. This is a mixed bag but looks like a great story.
Pillars and Tyranny got great stories, but the cluster fight of real time with pause almost makes the games unplayable.

honestly ? all of them.

Check up on which is currently the cheapest, buy it and then next time buy the next one as cheap as you can.

If you have not played any of those there is no reason whatsoever to buy on release as long as there are a lot of excellent games waiting for you.

I can not give you a honest answer when it comes to TTON the beta content is really good, but that does not mean that its the same for the rest of the content *shrug*

Quote for truth

Also, you're missing one: Shadowrun Dragonfall. Be sure to check that one out too.

If you want replayability you should go for Tyranny hands down. Game locks you out from many areas based on your choices and you cannot visit them unless you play different in a second playthrough. Combat can be challenging but it is an active pause system and not turn based. Very innovative and interesting spell management was a huge plus for me. (game locks you out from learning all of the spell combinations in one playthrough).

If you are more action oriented and want to have fun in turn based combat, i'd go for Divinity Original Sin. One of the best RPG's i have ever played, 2nd only to Dragon Age Origins. Very innovative and responsive combat style makes you able to mix different elements together (ex if you use fireball on an ice surface you create water surface which in turn makes enemies far more vulnerable to lighting dmg etc). Very long game too and you can coop with a friend.

If you are into narrative and story driven content, go for Torment. Not much experience with this title personally. But it is more of a "reading" rpg than a "slashing" one if you know what i mean. Planscape Torment tho was a great game, and if it's gonna be anything like that it will be amazing too.

If i could recommend something other than these i'd go for Dragon Age Origins, Fallout 2, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity or any of the good old RPG's with high rating on GGG, like Baldur's Gate (especially BG 2 for me), Neverwinter Nights etc.

IF you are looking for something that is fun and relaxing, kinda like Grim Dawn (awesome game!) you might want to look into Titan Quest, or my personal favourite Dungeon Siege 2, where you manage a party of 4, have access to tons of loot, including set items, you have 3 different difficulty levels on which you can replay the game and lots of hidden areas/secrets.
For a better Diablo 3 experience, go for Path of Exile obviously!

Hope it clears things up for ya! Cheers! :)

I am not German (I do understand and speak it abit) I did try Das Schwarze Auge and I liked that as well. Still not enough to topple my absolute top, but it was very enjoyable. The game is actually out in English as well.

For leaderbased game with epic stories :
Planescape torment, this, Baldur's gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Divinity original sin 1+2, and tyranny (pillars of eternity has some bland pointless story/rpg system :Eliminate:, worse that any of the old ssi & tsr games)
