1. Check Rockstar Services Status
Ensure Servers Are Online: Although you’ve checked the website, try visiting Rockstar’s Service Status page or their official Twitter for updates.
Community Check: Forums like Reddit or GTA Online subreddits might provide insight into broader outages.
---
2. Verify Your Internet Connection
Restart your modem/router.
Use a wired connection if possible for a more stable network.
Test the connection by visiting a website or playing another online game.
---
3. Clear DNS Cache
Clearing your DNS cache may resolve connection issues:
Windows:
1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
2. Type ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter.
3. Restart your computer.
Console Users: Restart your console and router.
---
4. Configure Network Ports
GTA V requires specific ports to connect to Rockstar Services:
Ports to Open:
TCP: 80, 443
UDP: 6672, 61455, 61456, 61457, 61458
How to Open Ports:
1. Log in to your router’s settings (usually via 192.168.x.x in your browser).
2. Open the above ports for your device (check the manual for port-forwarding steps).
3. Save changes and restart the router.
---
5. Disable VPN/Proxy
Rockstar’s servers may block connections through certain VPNs or proxies. Disable any active VPNs or proxies and try reconnecting.
---
6. Check Firewall/Antivirus
Your firewall or antivirus software might block Rockstar Services.
Add GTA V and Rockstar Launcher as exceptions in:
Windows Firewall.
Your antivirus software.
Alternatively, disable your firewall/antivirus temporarily and try again.
---
7. Verify Game Files
Corrupted game files can cause connection issues:
For Steam:
1. Open your Library, right-click GTA V, and select Properties.
2. Navigate to the Installed Files tab and click Verify Integrity of Game Files.
For Rockstar Launcher:
1. Go to Settings > My Installed Games > GTA V.
2. Click Verify Integrity.
---
8. Reinstall Rockstar Launcher
If the issue persists, the launcher itself may be causing the problem.
1. Uninstall the Rockstar Games Launcher.
2. Download the latest version from Rockstar’s official site.
3. Reinstall it and log in to your account.
---
9. Reset Network Settings
Windows:
1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

---
10. Contact Rockstar Support
If none of the above works, submit a ticket to Rockstar Support. Provide details about the issue, including:
Error messages (if any).
Steps you’ve already taken.
Try some of these and see if anything gets better
One of the many reasons Rockstar has become one of the worst developers that exist today.
Of all the many games I've played that are single player with an online multiplayer component, it is ONLY Rockstar games that force you to connect to the internet to launch the game and play it offline.
In fact I have never encountered another game developer that literally forces you to connect to the internet in order to launch their games in offline mode and play them offline.
Lets never forget that GTA is a single player franchise. The worst thing ever added to GTA is online multiplayer.
Furthermore there is no reason for any game to ever force a player to connect to the internet in order to play it offline.
Diablo 3
SimCity.
Gran turismo 7.
The crew.
NFS .
Several single-player games require an internet connection due to their design, digital rights management (DRM) policies.
Luckily at least on steam the store page says this if it is needed or not.
You can infact run gta 5 without a Internet connection for a certain time , some people say a week and some two before it needs to validate the ownership again .
Interesting.
Ironically I have no real interest in any of those games as the ones I've tried I consider to be fairly low quality garbage (especially when compared to their older versions that were better in every conceivable way)
On the other hand, I can fire up the multiplayer focused games I have like the Call of Duty or Battlefield without an internet connection and play them by myself running around the empty maps. None of them force me to connect to the internet before launching them.
Also as far as being able to run GTAV and RDR2 without an internet connection for a set amount of time, I have never been able to get this to work. For myself and many others, the games will force you to connect to the internet to "verify the purchase" literally EVERY SINGLE TIME they are launched.
It is quite literally 100% impossible for me to even play 5 seconds of either game without connecting to the internet first via Rockstar's extremely crappy launcher.
There is no reason for any DRM to ever force an internet connection when launching a game. The purchase is already verified twice, once when you buy the game, and again when you install it. Furthermore those who sail the high seas to obtain their copies will pretty much never have to deal with this "verify the purchase" nonsense, so the fact that they require it is even more pointless, stupid, and anti-consumer.
Still use windows 7 and 8 I didn't think I'd have to upgrade
This includes running the R* launcher in comparability mode for 7/8 - don't.
