From External Hard Drive
Why does this game work fine when it's installed to an internal hard drive and when it's installed to an external hard drive, when I load it, it starts off okay and seconds later it changes to a Windowed version in 720p followed later by a graphics card problem? All this makes no sense all because of downloading and installing the game to an external hard drive.

Running the game from any HDD will be a terrible experience, even more so from an external one

to be honest you want to have this game on SSD if possible
this will reduce most issues to stuttering and co to a minimum
Some games aren't really made to be run from a external hard drive because of all the data that has to be processed as fast as possible.
About the problem you have in specific, sadly no clue.

External SSD's are a thing too. They shouldn't cause any trouble.

nop only difference is 3x longer offline loading time than ssd, everything else is the same (network)

And 3x loading any time you enter and exit buildings or missions, and possible slow loading when moving around the map.

I honestly did not know you could buy an external SSD, I just assumed externals were all HDD.

This one is pretty good. I will buy one of them soon i think. For my laptop, my regular desktop PC already has enough SSD storage.

Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield

you will likely experience high texture thrashing and missing blocks of the world, have fun with that tho.

Thanks for that info. I've been thinking about buying an external hard drive but was having a hard time finding and choosing a ssd with at least 2TB of space.

Much appreciated

Are you referring to having these issues with the HDD or are you saying that would be the case with either one including the SSD??

You're welcome. The nice thing about that SSD drive is that even a formerly known USB 3.1 Gen 2 that is called now USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 port with 10 Gbit/s is enough to get the max speed out of it.

I will connect it via USB C cable to my laptop.

a external usb puts the load on the cpu, so you are taking away from what the cpu can do, if you can afford that then i suppose top of hte line, expensive, bleeding edge tech can do that. But is it really worth it when you could change your internal to a larger size for a pittance of the cost and 0 perf loss?

I find it interesting why other games run okay from an external hard drive apart from GTA V so far.
