Were you able to do this? If you have please shed some light on this
1- Download GTAVSetupTool.exe - https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/activate
2- Install the file, It will install in Directory C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
3- Once it starts downloading 60gb PAUSE the download. (Close it later)
4- Now copy the Steam backup files excluding GTAVLancher.exe
5- Delete the downloaded files in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V, Excluding GTAVLauncher.exe
(This is because Steam GTAVLauncher.exe is different)
6- Paste the copied steam backup in the directory.
7- Delete GTA5.exe
8- Now restart the download (or click on the GTAVLauncher.exe)
9- This will download 200-400mb file, and after its done your good to go :)
8- Thank me later.
Basically, because I wasn't paying attention, I was actually unpacking the steam backup into the wrong directory. Once I discovered this, and relocated it accordingly, it worked. The Rockstar updater/launcher version recoginised the files, and then simply downloaded the patches.
I never attempted the fix above, but WhyIsItHard seems to have got the game working with that fix, maybe give that a go.
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
I would suggest that you start the download on the GTA V launcher, and then see where it starts downloading files to. Wherever that location may be on your computer, you'll want to unpack your files there.
Hope this helps.
Buy it on steam, start the install - when it starts downloading - hit pause. Exit steam.
Copy your disc/retail gtav folders/files to steam/steamapps/common/Grand Theft Auto V
Next, you will need an appmanifest_271590.acf - there is one in the link below (might be old)
(you can also get an updated copy from a friend if thats the case)
Put that appmanifest into the steam/steamapps folder.

Start steam back up, rightclick gtav in steam, properties, local files, verify cache.
It SHOULD verify your files - and download 7-10gb... That is the dlc/updates not on disc.
For cleanup purposes - you can also delete the playgtav.exe, gpuperf file, and nvpmapi file.
(those are for R* version only)

Wow, this really helped me out. Thanks a lot for the help!
Cheers for that mate, been trying to figure it out for a while now.
This worked, thanks a lot !
I suggest this method to anyone that has GTA V on steam and that can't play with thier social club account on steam.
