Is there any reason to pay an extra ~$30 for GTA5 on Steam?
This game is ~$30 cheaper on several other sites all with the exact same pre-order deals. So.. what does Steam have to offer? Will our version have Steamworks? I doubt it..

The other sites only use Rockstar Games Social Club and not Steam, but will Steam simply open up a Rockstar Games Social Club updater like it does with MMOs?

Why is Steam worth an extra $30?

EDIT: This isn't a rhetorical post, seriously, "Is there anything unique to the Steam version? "

Then don't buy it. Simple as that.

Not really. All you get with Steam is the game added to your library and the option to download the game when ever you want. I don't think Steam is worth it, I only use Steam because most PC games force you to use it otherwise I would never use it.

Useless comment, I'm asking a question. Is there anything unique to the Steam version? I'll update to be more specifc.

I see.. $33 Nuvuum and $46 GMG are indeed superior value then.

I kept thinking "no.. Steam must have something competitive".. but its looking like it will be more of an MMO-launcher minus the achivements.

I don't think so, other then getting GTA San andreas free and able to "Pre-load".

There is almost no downside to buying a cd key off a website instead of directly through steam. The worst that could happen is you dont get the CD key in time to pre-load. Also if you pay through paypal you can get a refund if they never send you a key at all. A lot of sites even give you pre-order bonuses.

Buying a cd-key is the same thing as going down the street, buying a boxed copy, and inputting the cd-key to download through steam. The only difference is its usually over a 50% discount.

Dont buy GTA V on a third party site that is illegal and not supported by steam.

Not all CD-Key websites are legit, mind you. Some of them are the equivalent of a guy wearing a coat in a shady backalley and asking you if you're interested in cheap goods.

Green Man Gaming and Nuvuum are legit, especially the first one. They are selling keys directly for Rockstar Games Social Club. Which I'm guessing is a in-house Rockstar-DRM of sorts, as it can redeem games. I think they are going the way of Activision.

Well, the other sites are most likely, not legit...

gmg is legit, g2a isn't. I bought from GMG before.

Let me simplify this for the hard-of-comprehending:

GMG, Gamestop, Nuvuum, Square-Enix, and various other sellers of activation keys SOMETIMES have Steam keys, but also sell keys to other DRM. So when you buy a game, you look to see if it activates on Steam or on something else. GTA5 on most of the sites only activates on Rockstar's in-house DRM called "Social Club". This means I will not have GTA5 on my Steam library, but on another library. Sort of like how I have Battlefield 4 (purchased on Gamestop's website) on my Origin account. I know some still won't get it but at aleast I tried lol.

I just get it on Steam for the convenience of having most all of my games in one place. If price were a factor, I might look elsewhere. But it's not, so I don't.

Its AWESOMLY convenient when you wanna play something online but steam is having issues and the only way you get is login in offline mode, so if all your games are here you have to wait. What a convenience...
P.S.: That was sarcasm, just in case someone didnt get it.

Steam says you need Rockstar Social Club and judging by how other Rockstar titles work, even if you get the Steam version, you'll need to use Rockstar Social Club. Once you've added it to Social Club (by running the game through Steam and logging in to Social Club), you should be able to start it without Steam.

So, it doesn't matter where you buy it from, really. You always need to run Social Club at the end.

On the game page it says...

"System requirements:
...Other requirements: Installation and online play requires log-in to Rockstar Games Social Club (13+) network; internet connection required for activation, online play, and periodic entitlement verification; software installations required including Rockstar Games Social Club platform, DirectX , Chromium, and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 sp1 Redistributable Package, and authentication software that recognizes certain hardware attributes for entitlement, digital rights management, system, and other support purposes. SINGLE USE SERIAL CODE REGISTRATION VIA INTERNET REQUIRED; REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO ONE ROCKSTAR GAMES SOCIAL CLUB ACCOUNT (13+) PER SERIAL CODE; ONLY ONE PC LOG-IN ALLOWED PER SOCIAL CLUB ACCOUNT AT ANY TIME; SERIAL CODE(S) ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE ONCE USED; SOCIAL CLUB ACCOUNTS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE. Partner Requirements: Please check the terms of service of this site before purchasing this software."
