Useless comment, I'm asking a question. Is there anything unique to the Steam version? I'll update to be more specifc.
I kept thinking "no.. Steam must have something competitive".. but its looking like it will be more of an MMO-launcher minus the achivements.
I don't think so, other then getting GTA San andreas free and able to "Pre-load".
Buying a cd-key is the same thing as going down the street, buying a boxed copy, and inputting the cd-key to download through steam. The only difference is its usually over a 50% discount.
Green Man Gaming and Nuvuum are legit, especially the first one. They are selling keys directly for Rockstar Games Social Club. Which I'm guessing is a in-house Rockstar-DRM of sorts, as it can redeem games. I think they are going the way of Activision.
GMG, Gamestop, Nuvuum, Square-Enix, and various other sellers of activation keys SOMETIMES have Steam keys, but also sell keys to other DRM. So when you buy a game, you look to see if it activates on Steam or on something else. GTA5 on most of the sites only activates on Rockstar's in-house DRM called "Social Club". This means I will not have GTA5 on my Steam library, but on another library. Sort of like how I have Battlefield 4 (purchased on Gamestop's website) on my Origin account. I know some still won't get it but at aleast I tried lol.
P.S.: That was sarcasm, just in case someone didnt get it.
So, it doesn't matter where you buy it from, really. You always need to run Social Club at the end.
On the game page it says...
