Rockstar Editor, missing music selections?
Just curious, new to using the editor, and while making my 2nd project I decided to add a song. So I went to add "Carry on Wayward Son" from Los Santos Rock, but it's not there. Does anyone know why? Is it licensing issues or something with the song so Rockstar couldn't allow it in the editor?

Only a limited number of music tracks are available, most likely due to licensing.

But if the music has been licensed for use in-game, that wouldn't make a lot of sense, would it?

I used "Fortunate Son" from the Editor's selection and Youtube forbade my video from being viewed in Germany. =P

Yes its a greed thing. At one time Apple was proposing with their new devices that could listen and detect what music/song you were listening that they could charge the user for listening to music that they didn't pay for. Like in a store who has music playing, Apple wanted to charge your for listening.

I make chairs.....and I want to charge every ass that sits in it.

Depends on the license. Not every license allows you to use the music in videos.

And the GEMA are a special case anyways...

music licenses are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, the ones we cannot use have probably a book work of rules attached to them, like you can use it on the radio in game but any other way or form is not allowed. Like Danger zone is used in a mission of the heists and it's perfect for it! they probably had to kiss some asses to make that work.

Carry on wayward son is being used by one of the biggest shows right now and in my mind it would make sense for the show to allow usage of that song just for promotional usage, because everyone knows that song from that show.

To give some advice if you want to make money of your GTA 5 Youtube video's, don't use any of the non Rockstar made songs, use the in game scores for it, that's fine.
There is a lot of good royalty free music on the internet and most of the biggest Youtubers use that music, or ask a musician friend to make some music for you, even the most simple tunes can be effective for video's :)
