Grand Theft Auto V Legacy

Ignoring suggested vram limit
I have 2gb available on a gtx960 and it seems to have no issue with me running in the 2.5gb range. It did crash a few times but since the latest patches i seem to be able to run at this level steady. Is there any risk of system damage or just crashes? I don't know much about what's happening inside this black box i spend my time with.. I'd like to think the computer would have some sort of kill switch (crashes?) before it reaches critical levels. Should i be monitoring temps or usage? Should I plug my xbox back in?

Thanks for sharing any knowledge

I monitor temps all the time, I think it's basically required if you intend to run games at as high of settings / FPS as your hardware can handle.

But no, there won't be any damage, you might experience stuttering / lower FPS by going over, but if you don't then it's fine.

Thanks for the reply. What's a good way for my to monitor my temp; is it possible through the nvidia panels?

I don't believe it is, personally I use MSI Afterburner for GPU and Realtemp for CPU. MSI Afterburner also allows you to set up custom fan profiles which can help reduce temps if they're too high.

Gonna check this out, thanks again
You should definitely monitor the temperature. 2 weeks ago i wanted to test some settings so i had to Ignore suggested limits and while i didnt experience any problems i decided to alt-tab and check the temp. My GPU (730 gt xD), which regulates between 30-40 C,jumped to 99 C. Be careful with this.

Just don't mess with anything you don't understand on MSI Afterburner. It's also an overclocking program but it's the best I've found for monitoring GPU temps.
Ya I have no overclocking ambitions.. do different cards have different running temps? or is there a general temp they should be kept at?

Different cards throttle at different temperatures, but all cards should turn off your system before any permanent damage is done. Aslong as you stay below throttling temperature you're "okay", but some people have preferences as to where to keep their temperatures.
According to the game i use 2400/2000 vram and never had any issues.
I have a Geforce GTX 680 that also 2 GB and i'm way above the limit, it's working really well with 60 FPS, it is overclocked through.
