CPU Throttling!?!
Yep, latest update (30/04/15) causes my CPU to throttle down from it's turbo clock to about 1.4GHz I think it was. Really rather odd. Tab back to desktop, magically back to full speed. Jump back into my now poor performing GTA V, nah, you don't need all them gigahertz, have 1.2. Tab back to desktop, full speed ahead.

Intel users might want to disable Speed Step if they have not already. Personally, I like to have it on but clearly GTA wants me to think otherwise.

Loaded up a couple of other games no issues, uses the CPU as it is supposed to with no throttling.

Temperature problems?

The cpu throttles due to heat. Its not Gta its your pc or laptop.

I think your cpu is too hot to run

Nope, temps are fine. I have Intel XTU open and can monitor everything. The throttle is instant when tabbing from desktop to game. No indication of power throttling either.

Are you running it in "performance mode" so that the cpu won't throttle down? Specs on the comp might help us help you as well.

Im curious, what are you using to measure speed?

Intel XTU. It gives you all kinds of information including thermal throttling as well as power and current limit throttling....none of which are triggering. I launch the game and all through the loading process it's fine, as soon as I am in the game world my clock drops to around 1.4GHz. I tab out, it's back to turbo. I tab back in and it almost goes to idle speeds.

It's tied to Intel Speedstep because if I disable that, it doesn't happen. It's like GTA doesn't use enough CPU for it to think something is running.

Yes, I have set the power plan to high performance and it still happens. I'm not really sure anyone can say anything to help. I've spent the past few hours trying various things and the only way to stop it happening is to disable Speedstep.

I only post this so that other people who might be having performance issues all of a sudden could maybe try it because I did not have this problem until the latest patch.

The odd thing is, I still get around 60 fps. I just noticed it dipping where it did not used to and stuttering appeared. Also, like I say, I've tried other games and it does not happen. I run Sleeping Dogs maxed out at a constant 60 fps and the CPU holds its turbo.

So, something in this patch does not like me.
