Check out the guide I made for doing just that. I use a Logitech wheel and pedal in GTA V no problems.

I've checked your guide, but got annoying deadzone, probably because it's emulating the x360 controller, so i'm staying with the edited gamepad.xml. Nice guide btw (maybe i did something wrong).
