Enable more realistic driving
Hello everybody.

Well two weeks ago was my first experience of gta5 and first thing that really put me off was the driving physics. Impossible turning, tire grip like f1 cars, weight transfer is almost non existent due to hard and very limited suspension travel. It's really bad, worse than a nfs game and I was getting bored of driving already so I took a break from the game.

(I just want to say that I'm a driving person, it's one of my best skills and have been developing my understanding of cars and racing for some 10 years now. I don't play gta for the driving but after being completely spoiled by GTA IV modded car physics I can't stand such unrealistic driving as it's a big part of the game and it makes gateways and such so much more enjoyable)

So I found something awesome which made my V experience orders of magnitude more enjoyable, a cheat code to be specific. The cheat code has to be entered every game and after you die sometimes. Entering it will stop achievements from recording but I couldn't care less for it.

What does it do?

It allows the tires to slip appropriately as understeer and oversteer are a very real thing now. Weight transfer is much more realistic with the weight actually affecting the cars direction and angle of slip. Drifting and general loss of traction fun is now possible, traction loss when taking off under hard acceleration, tires locking up on hard breaking and so on. Simply, it's like taking off TCS, ABS and other stability control systems. (Controller is a must!!!)

I'm glad R included this cheat as I'm sure some driving fanatic over there made this handling possible. This will keep me going until we can edit handling files to further improve it.

TL;DR

Disable TCS/ABS and other stability control systems.

Press ~ and enter snowday as the cheat. Controller is a must!!!

Enjoy driving in the rain :D

I have been wanting to turn off the traction control since i started this game

In my honest opinion, I love GTA 5 driving. I do wish the cars would go faster... In first person mode, the speedometer never goes above 100-140MPH. Using Franklins ability increases the speed, but slows down time.

Thanks for the tip, Im gonna give it a try.

Nothing wrong with that, each to their own. When we can mod handling files we'll be able to make the top speed a much more realistic value. Currently almost all cars have the same top speed and the acceleration differences between them are not as drastic as it should be. Quick tip: when you use Franklins ability to reach top speed, disable it and you'll still be flying at said speed. Driving with Franklin using his ability is so much like cheating, taking 90 degree corners at top speed is a breeze.

That doesn't seem to be real cause if all cars traveled like you, you won't be seeing anyone faster than you, but faster cars really are going at faster speeds.
It's just a representation to make it more cool, same goes with the website where you're buying cars, it says 300mph where it's slower but the ratio between cars is fair.

Anybody tried it out?
RAioD Apr 30, 2015 @ 3:12pm
Yeah I tried it, I was expecting it to be harder so I got an excuse to plug back in my steering wheel, but no problem to control it with the keyboard for now. Dont know if it feels more realistic but more slippery for sure. Its enjoyable in a different way, because dodging cars at full speed in the normal mod its quite addictive, at least for me.

I like the driving the way it is, if you want realistic driving Project Cars. GTA 5 isn't trying to be realistic nor should it be thats what sims are for.

I'm glad that the fix you found works for you either way!

This is not "turning traction control off", it's "reducing the wheels' friction against the ground". GTA5 does not have traction control on cars, hence why if you hold handbrake, rev up, and go, there is much skidding. And if you get a mod that simply increases your engine power, you will slide around easily with no interference from the game. Why it may seem like there is traction control is because the engine output is quite low. First, it makes it unnecessary for the programmers to make a traction control system in the game. Second, it means cars just go slower in general so you don't have to be an amazing driver in-game to max the top speed of your car, go around turns quickly, etc.
