How do I get a new permanent car? [single player]
What do I need to do to get a new car that I won't loose, something like the default cars each character comes with.

I have a garage, but what if I take the car out oneday, trash it, and loose it in the middle of nowhere; will it return to the garage?

What if I buy a car online and garage it?

I need help here, since what's the point in buying a car and spending money modding it, if it's going to 1) sit in the garage 2) get lost

3) how does the impound work? is it only my last two cars, do all my cars show up there, is it only my owned or stolen cars, etc.

Basically help me out with the car system in general; thanks!

You can't, you are better off just rebuying the car if you lost it or just reload a save with the car in your garage.

That's such crap.. Good thing I didn't upgrade/buy anything other than my default car.

I figured buying a car, or storing it in a garage makes it function as a "permanent" car.

Yeah I have no idea why Rockstar haven't implemented this after several GTA games.

I just googled around, discovered "Mors car insurance" or something along those lines. Apparently it's single-player only :/

Ontop of that I found thousands of QQ comments all over the web yelling at rockstar to let you "save" cars.

Like cammon, if it's in online mode (which I don't play), why not put it in SP?

The Insurance is an online thing, which prevents people from losing huge investments from griefing if their vehicle gets destroyed. Its fairly ironic that SP makes it harder to actually keep a car.

Yea, sometimes I'm lazy and just drive crashing into everything -- taking huge falls and blowing every car up.

My default car will always respawn, and stolen cars, I don't care about.

I'd love to have a car collection, and swap some out -- but I don't want to buy and mod a car spending tons of money to have it explode and money wasted.

Years have passed and no help from rockstar, dispite all the QQ I've found googling.

Maybe mods will save us.

well in single player if you use your custom car from garages and leave them in streets there is chance they will get imounded and you will have to drive to police to get them back but it almost never happens to me because i get to see 2 random cars in impound lot :D and no you cant change character specific original cars

One good reason to play online honestly. Pretty much my main motivation to actually earn money is to customize and collect cars.

I'm still playing story mode, didn't play GTA in years. Yes I know how it ends, but still doesn't make it any less fun.

Maybe I'll start playing online after, but I don't see the apeal? does online mode have unlimited solo missions like SP?

 • Story mode:

Character cars that belong to Franklin, Michael and Trevor all respawn somewhere and at some point.
The cars you buy and store in a garage are kind of a 50/50 deal.
Most of the time if I buy a car in single player, it lives in the garage and can only see the light of day when the planets align.

 • Online:

Cars you buy are instantly fitted with vehicle insurance (Mors Mutual Insurance) and a Tracker to help you locate it on the map.
If you steal a car and want to keep it, putting it in your garage will only fit a tracker onto it and you will have to take it to the mod shop and manualy fit insurance.
It's worth to note that stolen high end cars (Banshee, Zentorno etc.) can't be stored and must be bought.
When a car is destroyed, you will have to phone Mors Mutual Insurance and have them "repair" it, you can then go and collect it again or have you mechanic bring it to you.
If you die on an epic (sometimes not so epic) police chase, your current car is stored in the impound lot and you will have to go retrieve it manually.

Hopefully this helps someone <3

Thanks guys, as for the mod community: it's still to early.
1) The mod has a bunch of crap I don't need
2) The save system is still not at a reliable level.

You guys answered my questions, thank you -- I guess I either wait for a perfect car mod [If this game's mod community gets as big as skyrim that will be no problem], or RockStar to add car insurance to SP
