Disable Aero for GTA V?
Anyone know an easy way to disable Aero only when GTA V is running? I already tried making a shortcut and doing it from there, but all the compatibility options are greyed out when I check the shortcut. And no, I don't want to just disable Aero permanently.

What about making a shortcut to Steam and on Steam Compatibility Options you check to disable Aero?

Problem is, Steam is open all the time for me.. and then Windows looks ugly due to this.. constantly.. i want it for GTA5 only, not when steam is open.

You really won't see a significant performance boost from doing this. This was originally intended to be a compatibility, not a performance measure, for older games that ran on a simpler UI like Win95/98.

No, most games don't like Aero that much, even never games. Upon Disabling Aero (via the .exe file) for the specific game the error message that i don't have enough memory or not enough performance causing the game to minimize automatically.. i never got this problem anymore.. and even a slight boost of a few fps despite having 32GB Ram, 5960x CPU and 780Ti SLI.. and a pagefile of 16GB just to be safe.

um, what else are you running?? You shouldn't have any problem running GTA V with those specs, I have a 3930K, 16GB Ram, and a GTX 670, no problem at all, haven't made any changes to any settings. What else are you running with the game? and are you running latest drivers for your graphics card, and motherboard? What version of windows are you running?

i don't have issues running gta5, except stupid stuttering with Vsync sadly. But no matter what game i run, after 1-2 hours windows shows an alert message for not having enough memory/performance bla and disables AERO automatically. Ofcourse i have latest drivers for everything.

Sounds like a memory leak in something running on your system, got anything else running in the background? The only thing that comes to mind is you're running a 32-bit version of windows and it's limiting you to 3.5gb of RAM total and limiting any individual app to using 2GB ram.

I suggest running resmon.exe (windows program) in the background while you play GTA V, ideally on a second screen if you can, so you can watch your memory usage.

Just FYI, windows is talking about RAM, not video memory.

You have to be kitten me right? Only dewbs use 32Bit these days, i have Win7 Ultimate 64Bit ofcourse. I'm not stupid enough to install a 32Bit system if i've got 32GB Ram. I know it's not Vram, but System Ram.. it was always the warning message "Do you want to change the color scheme to improve performance". Probably due to Aero being a bit buggy, despite having a Beast of a Rig. That's why i always disable it in each Game .exe

You're not tackling the root of the problem, you really shouldn't get that message on your rig, something else is wrong to be causing that, turning off aero is such an insignificant change relative to the huge resources your rig has available, you've got a nuclear power station, and you're turning off a clock-radio in your house because you're running out of power :/ You say it's with every game, you need to figure out what's wrong with your PC.

You can add 2 shortcut to your desktop: 1 for your current theme and another one for windows basic theme (in which Aero already disabled ), and all you need to do is double click one of the shortcuts before you run game, and after you exit the game. Not perfect, but works for me.

That's so troublesome. :/ I am honestly just considering disabling Aero permanently. I am running an old Asus laptop, really (G74SX-DH72).

Right click GTAV.EXE in the steam folder, go to properties, compatibility and set 'disable desktop composition' to checked, hit apply and then ok

Now when you launch GTA aero will disable and then re-enable when you quit.
