Grand Theft Auto V Closed Unexpectedly
I've been having a strange problem with my copy of GTA. Whenever I boot it up, the launcher signs me as normal, but then the game never shows up and after a few minutes it gives me the option to retry.
Several other people have had this bug, and I have tried:
Running as admin
disabling and reenabling GPU
Disabling firewall
Reinstalling (done that twice now, both for the game and for social club).
Oddly enough, the only time the game has worked is when my AMD gpu is off and the game relies on my processor's integrated graphics, but that makes the game unplayable even at lowest settings (max 5 FPS). My specs are:
Intel i7 Quad Core
AMD HD 7700m 2 gb
Anybody know any solutions other than what I put? Any help is extremely appreciated.

I forgot to mention - I am running windows 8.1, if that makes any difference.

I have the same issue except i'm on windows 7 and i haven't any way around it and i'd appreciate a fix as well

just out of curiosity, do you have an amd GPU @endthelight?
Chance Apr 26, 2015 @ 2:44pm
no i'm running with an intel 4000 but i've been able to run games that demanded higher grade video cards

I have the exact same issue . Game will not start . I have done countless "fixes" and thing to try and get it to work .
my specs are
Clevo Laptop
i7 Quad Core
16gb RAM
AMD HD 7980m 2 gb
windows 8.1

I have tried all the power saving methods and i can not get anything to work. even got the new beta AMD drivers that were made for GTAV still nothing .

I really hope they patch / fix this because i really regret paying $60 for this game when it cant even be played

Oh, here's one other fix I forgot to mention that seems to work for people who don't use windows 8/8.1:
Go to control panel
Go to Uninstall a program
Uninstall your recording software and OpenAL
Reboot computer
GTA works
This particular fix didn't work for me, but for some it did, so I figure someone might profit.
Chance Apr 26, 2015 @ 2:57pm
what is OpenAL and where can i find it
skyking Apr 26, 2015 @ 3:02pm
OpenAL is software for sound in a 3d area. Most modern games don't use it, and it's usually installed with games that require it. If you're a big fan of minecraft or any of the amnesia games, don't try this fix. You can look up lists of games that require it online. Source games do not require OpenAL.

uninstalling open AL did not work for me but i tried this "method" and i am able to run the game but i have to keep the settings somewhat low to get a good FPS . i definitly feel like my computer is not using its full potential but the game is definitly playable and it is not using my intergrated on board graphics card . Good luck and i hope thia can get some people playing tll an Actual Patch comes out because this sucks having to do all this to play a game we just paid $60 for

(this guy had bad english but i still got the genreal idea of what he was trying to get across. this was the only method that could get the game to work )
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1)make sure BOTH Graphic card are ENABLE and not disable like others say.
2)open catalyst and set GTA5.exe to power save same as GTA5Launcher" - BOTH POWER SAVE
3)go C:\Users\Aviad(yourname)\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V and find there settings file , open it and change the value of DX_VERSION to 1. (it force the game start in DX 10.1) save it
4)**IMPORTANT!!**Launch the game from steam and wait the intro to be like in the middle*-
Press WINDOWS + ALT + ENTER. **IMPORTANT!!**
(if u did play silkroad online u should remember the bug at ongs which those combine of keys did fix it)
then game should run in other window.
reasons*:
at the begining might be earlier
at the end most of the time windows crash
5)wait untill he go to the menu and then apply High performance from catalyst.
6)check at the graphic and u should see the game is running with your graphic card by the video memory at top.

now when im testing it again - after u did one time WINDOWS + ALT + ENTER. no need to do it again (else it doesnt work again)

this fix did the trick for me @SomeCubanGuy and i would certainly suggest it for any other person having issues such as us even though it has no garentee of working
Cuban Apr 26, 2015 @ 5:18pm
yeah i just wish there was a better way for us to play the game =( hopefully something gets done . Rockstar and Steam both aknowledged this issue so hopefully they are working on it
Cuban Apr 27, 2015 @ 7:35pm
anyone else have any other ideas on how to get this to work ?
Chance Apr 28, 2015 @ 1:31pm
i've not seen any truly helpful ideas beyond here...usually people just say to redownload some prerequeset program like directx
Cuban Apr 29, 2015 @ 4:52pm
@EndTheLight Can you run the game with decent settings with that method? i cant seem to go too high the the video prefences but i feel like my system should be able to to do so much more
Chance May 1, 2015 @ 9:00pm
i can go up to the top of video settings without any lag at all
