GTA V causing my PC to shut down?
Most of the times I try to play GTA V it causes my PC to shut down completely. No error messages or nothing, just a complete shut down. My GPU drivers have been updated to the latest version and I can't seem to find what the cause is. At first I thought it was just an issue with my PC but the shut downs only occur when I play GTA V, I can run any other games just fine. I don't think it can be overheating because I recieve messages if my CPU temp is too high, and my GPU can run more "intense" games just fine, so it shouldn't be overheating (key word "shouldn't")

My PC Specs are:
Processor: AMD FX 8320 Eight Core CPU
GPU: ASUS AMD Radeon HD 7770
RAM: Corsair Vengance 8 GB
HDD: WD 1TB Black 7200 rpm
PSU: Coolmax 600W ZU series

If anyone else has a similar problem or have a solution please comment.

Overheating.

In your graphics control center you should be able to UNDERclock your hardware to lower the temperatures, or in some cases, set custom fan ramps so your fans spin faster at lower temperatures (further increasing your cooling capabililty)

If youre using an ATI card i recommend MSI Afterburner, it's excellent software designed to overclock, underclock, set custom fan ramps and ultimately take full control over your cards ability to perform as well as cool down.
Temps are normal in my case. VID below 70, CPU below 50. BTW I must add, my build is less than 5months old. So I cant write this on old or overused components.
This is fully some in game fault or leak. I oppened Ticket at rockstar. We will see the magical answer from them.
İf your PC specs are good and if you are still getting this problem here is your fix :

My computer shutted down itself before atleast every 5 or 25 minutes now i can play 3 hours without any simple shutdown.

I had a similar issue some years back in Sid Meier's Civ V. :squirtmeh:
I did a thorough check up of all my parts -- RAM, CPU, GPU, HDDs, but the problem persisted.
Did a software update of all possible parts, the problem still persisted.
Finally I decided to go for a RMA of my Power Supply Unit on the suggestion of a friend. Sure enough it turned out THAT the PSU was faulty! :3: Funnily enough Civ5 was the only game when the PC would shutdown. :D:

Perhaps you should give your PSU a check? Better safe than sorry. :GDNormal:
I have a i7 5830, 32GB 2400MHZ Ram, Titan X running on a 850 Evo SSD with 1000w Platinum PSU. Used to have the same issue, turns out it was just a faulty PSU.
clean the dust out of the computer
I had same problem when i bought GTAV for some time. I completed story mode and played some time in Online and then i just bought Elite: Dangerous. After that time there was some new NVIDIA driver and i installed it. After playing Elite for 200 hours i returned to GTAV and now everything is fine.
I uninstalled geforce experience, no "shutdowns", BSOD, since. Some times I get game crashes, but very rare and that is in long session 3+ hrs. So cant test that fully I have somewhat a life.

Here are suggestions from rockstar support:
We would like to have you try the following troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issues you are experiencing.

• Ensure that you have Administrator privileges on the computer you are trying to run the game on.
• Ensure that all non-essential USB devices are disconnected from the computer for the purposes of troubleshooting. This could include (but isn't limited to): game controllers, flight-sticks, etc.
• Update your video and sound drivers. (Refer to manufacturer’s website)
• Disable Background Applications.
It is strongly recommended to turn off all background applications when running graphically intensive programs. Many applications can cause errors such as GPFs, color scrambling, loss of sound effects or music, etc. Taking a minute to turn off these applications can save you the trouble of rebooting later. Background applications include such things as System Agent, Norton Utilities, Internet chat utilities, virus checkers and screen savers. Crash guard programs such as First Aid for Windows can also cause problems.

Windows Vista / Windows 7
1. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Click on Start Search.
3. Type in msconfig and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Click the Continue button if the message "Windows needs your permission to continue" appears. If this message does not appear, please continue to step 5.
5. On the General Tab, choose Selective Startup.
6. Uncheck the option to Load Startup items.
7. Click Apply, then Ok, and restart the system when prompted.

• Reinstall Direct X Updates
It is possible that the version of Direct X running on your computer is encountering errors with the game you are trying to play. If this is the case, we advise reinstalling Direct X. The latest version of Direct X can be found herehttp://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
• Disable SLI/CrossFireX.
Many games do not support either the SLI or CrossFireX features of Nvidia or ATI video cards. It is advised to disable SLI/CrossFireX if you are running two or more video cards in the same computer when encountering issues. Please refer to manufacturer’s website for more details on how to enable/disable this feature.
• Lower Sound Acceleration.

Windows Vista/7/8
1. Press Windows + R to bring up the run box.
2. Type "control panel" without quotes, press ENTER.
3. Go to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
4. Pick your sound device that is set as default.
5. Click Properties.
6. Go to the Advanced tab.
7. Set "Default Format" to 44.1khz 16bit.
8. Click Apply and then click OK to accept the new setting and close the dialog box.
9. Click OK to close the Display Properties dialog box.
10. Restart Windows.
• Verifying the integrity of the game cache. (only applicable if you have the Steam version of the game)
• Right click on the game in the Steam library and select Properties.
• Navigate to the "Local Files" tab.
• Click "Verify integrity of game cache".
• Uninstall and Reinstall the game completely.
There is a possibility that some of the files which are installed during the setup process are incomplete or corrupted. Try uninstalling the game completely and reinstalling it under its default or express settings.

If none of the above troubleshooting resolves the issue, please contact us back for further troubleshooting with an updated DXDiag and MSInfo.

You are assuming because your build is 5 months old you are out of any hardware problems. This is your problem.
That Bronze rated PSU would be the first thing on my radar

Did you read my last post sir.. Here you go I will repead my self:
I uninstalled geforce experience, no "shutdowns", BSOD, since. Some times I get game crashes, but very rare and that is in long session 3+ hrs. So cant test that fully I have somewhat a life.

And I must add that it was not shutdown of PC, it looked like power issue, but actualy it was BSOD, (blue screen of death). After last game and video driver updates no more PC crashes, only some random game crashes. Which makes me think its games/nvidia fault , not my hardware setup, (reason to think that is I did not change any hardware, doh).
And to add to my previous statement, any other equaly graphic game does not do any weird things like this.

==EDIT: 01.06.2016=====================
My problemn was faulty electricity extension coord. Pluged PC directly to wall socket and problem was solved.

Recently I have been having the same issue. I wanted to upgrade my RAM (Random Access Memory) from 8gb to 16gb. When I installed the extra 8gb of RAM GTA started to make my computer shut down. Did some research and couldn't find anything. I took out that RAM I put in and bam GTA started to work again. When I put it back in didn't work again. Recently I tried something new, I went to my Library>>Grand Theft Auto V>>Right Click>>Properties>>click Set Launch Options and put this in there -dxlevel 10

Don't know for sure if this is what fixed it for me but now I don't have a issue with the extra 8gb of RAM in there. Hopefully I helped in some sort of way.
Your problem most likely is with motherboard RAM slots or one of your new RAM.
Do following: Place one stick in 1st - play a while, place same stick in 2nd slot, play. and so on. preferably with all RAM modules. GTA should run with 4G RAM.
Or you can do same with two sticks.
You must find out what causes BSOD. RAM stick or motherboard.
I mostly work with servers, they usually show in logg files witch slot is faulty. I dont want to dig that deep, but you can try googling - "diagnose faulty ram or slot".

P.S.
Do not try instaling, removing RAM when PC is powered on, or PSU is on. Even small curerent or static ectricity from your fingers may ruin your motherboard. I exaggerate a bit, but be cautious if this is your first time.

By the way. You can just remove old RAM and try any game on your new RAM in same slots you placed them. If it hapens again swap new modules to old ones. if it hapens its motherboard, if not its one of new ram. to find wich just swap them.

Imagine RAM as bucket. You had two 4liter buckets. GTA filled them and worked perfectly. Now you added two more, one of them has hole in it.

GTA fills first two as previous. Thats why you did not notice anything right away. Then some heavy 3D thing happend. GTA decides to use 3rd bucket witch has hole in it. And it crashes.

Hope it made some sense. Try Ram and slot swapping and post your results.
