how to swim up to the surface ?

Help i m stuck at a mission i my char keeps swimming down how do you get him to swim up ? i have done everything space bar shift noting works

Press "Shift" to swim and hold the "S" key to swim to surface. "space bar" will make you dive I believe.

I am just curious. Why do so many people ask this. Trying out the movement keys was basically the first thing I did once I was in the water the first time. Then I saw that Michael's body moved up and down with the w and s. Didn't take me long to find the shift key makes you swim. Seems to be hard :)

To be fair, it does tell someone how to swim both on screen the first time you do it and in the 'key setup' screen there is a section specifically for swimming that tells you which keys go up and down.

My sister played gta vice city like crazy when she was 8-11 years old... she is 20+ now and an A student, no drinking, no drugs, .. hmmm

Nice anecdote. The parents are ♥♥♥♥ for reasons other than just allowing them to play GTA.

I take it this must be Singleplayer only, because in Online as soon as I first hit water I got nothing (no popup, no controls, nada) and just drowned repeatedly.

Keybinds also has 0 option/controls for swimming, I had to come here to ask how to swim.
