Grand Theft Auto V Legacy

Grand Theft Auto V Legacy

GTA V is Getting a Server Browser (Mod)
Grand Theft Auto: Multiplayer is a mod developed as an alternative to GTA: Online. Notable features include an overhauled menu gui and the option to browse dedicated servers that, you, the community can host. Users will also have access to a local sandbox editor which you can invite others to. The sandbox will include an object and world editor allowing players to control virtually every aspect of the game with scripts as well as a full development interface.

GTA: MP will include a preferences overlay in addition to the in-game settings menu which will allow users to adjust network settings and allocate additional system resources (CPU and RAM usage) to the game. The modification will also have a self-updater, eliminating the need to navigate through system directories to replace individual outdated files.

The most important aspect of this project is the fact that the mod will serve as a ’back end’ for future user-made modifications, gametypes and maps. This will be a platform for modders to build on in hopes of creating simple add-ons, total conversions, overhauls, unofficial patches, and graphics modifications. This incredibly ambitious project could facilitate the next Altis Life, Garry’s Mod or Counter Strike.

Disclosure: The base code for this mod has been in development since 2013. The objective has been creating a module based multiplayer without the need for any third party applications. GTA: MP is considered an early access project and only a few people are participating the closed beta builds currently. The small team this project consists of develops on their free time and, given the scope of promised features, may take a while to complete. These guys are from various parts of Europe and, as far as I can tell, are extremely talented programmers. One of the project leaders, BitEmE, announced today that they brought another reverse engineer on board to speed up development.

This all may sound too good to be true and although GTA V has only been out for a little over one week the GTA: MP team has something to show for it:

For additional information or questions about the mod you can visit https://gta-mp.net
If you want to see GTA V expand beyond its current, yet awesome, state you should show your support and spread the word about GTA: MP as this is the most promising modification that exists for the game at this time.

I highly doubt that Rockstar is going to allow modding. They're definitely not going to support it. Especially when it comes to this new, persistent multiplayer mode that they've introduced in this title.

They've never really been supportive of their modding community even when it comes to their older titles in the series. I don't underestimate the ingenuity of the modding community but i'd be concerned using those mods with the online mode.

I'd rather have a good official online mode to be honest. This mod is cool and all but it splits the community, and somehow ruins the Online project.

To be honest, I will probably prefer to play on the official servers from Rockstar. Unlike others, I haven't had any issues so far in GTA Online except the Fleeca scope out bug. Unless there are some really really interesting and great mods coming out, I stick with the official GTA Online since it already offers quiet a lot.
You know if I could play online with friends on a private server with the blessing if R* I'd be all over it. I am sick if ending missions and ending up and n a random server.

It's true that R* has not actively supported modders. At the same time they have not condemned it or pursued litigation against parties who modded GTA SA or GTA IV.

True but their attitude may have changed given the fact the online mode is persistent.

I don't know. I am just speculating. Rockstar has yet to improve their community relations department. They've never been particularly communicative.

People are going to mod the game whether they like it or not. They should at least make it clear to us whether we'll get banned for using them or not but they're incapable of even doing that.
amazing idea
wishes the best for the team!

I still do not think R* could find any legal basis for shutting down a mod. There is no monetary gain from releasing a modification.

I agree on community relations, R* is very quiet during development cycles. I do not see bans happening. The servers you would be playing on would be third party, meaning that you could host from a rented or local machine. In either case, these servers would not be connected to Rockstar's persistent hive where the banhammer resides.
R* does have monetary interest in GTAO related activities.

unlike GTASA or GTAIV

You are correct in saying that R* does have a highlighted monetary interest in GTA O. More so than the previous titles. This is primarily because of microtransactions. Even in the case that GTA MP could draw enough players away to upset the virtual economy, the mod devs are still not gaining any kind of benifit as a result. Legal action would be pointless and GTA V would continue to sell thousands of copies.
yes but R* is a bussiness, if a MOD steals potential cash buyers from their servers, theyll try to chase them down.

thats simple to understand
lol Doesn't matter what R* does, you'll all be standing in line at midnight sometime in 2020+ waiting for your copy of GTA VI. :P

I am sorry, but so much legal precedent has already been set for businesses failing when going after non-profits. I would love to see them make the case that modders hurt sales because of people playing the game differently. It is not like the whole game is being distributed for free. The content that the consumer paid for is on their hard drive which they own. You think a business has the right to tell me what to do with files that exist on my equipment, which I also bought, legally? Do businesses have the right to tell me how to play my game?

Nah, I'll be comfortably sitting on my computer chair with steam open :D
you accept the end user license agreement. you buy the permission to use R* files. you dont legally own the game.

Modding the game's files to create servers or whatever activity is considered using R* files or reverse engineering of the files. which is forbidden.

R* can shut down any of those sites which distribute modifications of any kinds proven the case that it harms R* bussiness.

Let's wait and drink tea. I wish I could play the game without those Timeouts,Crashes, excessive Loadingscreens. 30% of today was real playtime, yesterday it was great, only few problems.
