Is it just me or...
Do the three main dudes in this GTA all seem to be altered versions of the three protagonists from GTAIII, Vice City and GTA: SA?

We've got Trevor, the mad psycho lunatic guy, while Fido wasn't overtly psychotic, he was rather eerily quiet; then we have Michael; the 80s guy, like Tommy; then Franklin... Uh... A black guy from SA...

So that's it, is it just me, or do you other GTA fanatics notice this too?

I'm not complaining or anything, I think it's kind of funny...

I just wish Niko was there... I love his sense of ... communication...

I actually thought Michael was the guy from Vice City until I got about halfway through the game.

I can't remember much of SA or GTAIII though.

Tommy is nothing like Michael really though their is some resembalances. Please don't ruin GTA VC by comparing them :P

Franklin, even though Ballas was both in San Andreas and in this game (Woo, the longest surviving gang in the series), is not CJ, as Lamar wasn't even a character in San Andreas.

They are both 80s themed charachters is what I mean.

It's weird Rockstar would script in so much of his love of the 80s that they could have easily left out; not to mention his mansion and pool...

Well aware that Frankling isn't CJ...

And I never brought up Lamar, so have no idea wtf you are going on about there...

Am starting to wonder about the literacy levels of Steam users...

I read something in which the developers described them as representing the 3 core GTA player types - the up and comer who likes fast cars and big bangs, the old blood who likes lots of money, and the psycho who lives for wanton destruction.

They're the 3 different parts of the player psyche, so in a way it makes sense that they bear resemblences to past characters, as they are intended to reflect parts of them all.

Having a similar trait doesn't come close to making 2 characters like each other, especially if that trait is "is a black guy living in Los Santos". Yes, I think it's just you.

yea wtf you talking about OP

Michael = Tony Soprano
Frankling = bland "homeboy" stereotype
Trevor = insane sociopathic redneck

how is any of them related to any of the previous GTA's characters? O.o

I thought they represented the playerbase.

Michael = The older gamer who just can't give up his favorite hobby
Franklin = The Minority who is playing the game as a form of escapism from his surroundings
Trevor = The scumbag gamer who wants to hack, talk about your mom and generally ruin people's good time.

LOL
