I've found a fix for the freezing/crashes! "atapi error 11"
Okay so here it is! Some of us have some major issues with playing the game for any amount of time. Most people crash to desktop with some sort of message, and some of us - like me - just plain freeze. Sometimes it happens after some huge glitches before it freezes.

It seems to have something to do with storage and somehow causing too much of a load on either your hard drive or solid state drive, and in some cases more load than it can handle. Causing it to disconnect or cease read/write functions temporarily. This causes GTA V to do some crazy stuff.

Here's what I want you to do:

1. Play the game like you normally would until it freezes or crashes.

2. Open up event viewer by clicking the start orb (Windows 7) and start typing event, it'll be the first one to come up. Not sure how you get it on Windows 8 but I would imagine you press the windows key and it's the same process.

3. Once you have event viewer opened up, proceed to view the "Error" category.

4. Look for a line with "atapi" in it. Double click that.

5. If you have the same issue as I did, you should see a whole list of "atapi" with event ID of 11.

6. This means you have a storage issue!

So here is the fix (if the diagnosis is correct):

Simply consult your motherboard manufacturer, or notebook manufacturer's website and look for any chipset/management/storage/ahci drivers. For me it was Intel's Rapid Storage driver that was not installed.

Ever since installing the driver, I have no issues with playing the game and the atapi error 11 does not appear! This error also affects other programs and will cause general hanging issues within Windows, so you wouldn't just notice it in GTA V if it were the problem.

Let me know if this helps you guys!

Got IRS installed, game is on a 120GB ssd and specs is way higher than recommended, still freezes and has severe memory leaks (can end up using 7GB ram)

Check BIOS settings and re-install IRS. Make sure it's the latest version. I've had issues with an older broken version before.
