GTA V 100% cpu usage and crashing
Hi people, i wonder if anyone has some tips/ideas to fix my issue.

PC setup
i7 4770 (non k series) 3.4 ghz boost to 3.9
2x GTX970 in sli
16gb RAM
144hz monitor
corsair h100i cpu cooler.

I am able to run the game at 105 fps smooth but with crashing every 10 minutes or so. (100% cpu usage @ 58 degrees)

so i played with some settings, had everything on ultra and everything on minimum no change, still 100% usage regardless.

Next i capped my FPS to 60, this seems to lower my cpu usage to 93% but still hitting 100% frequently and still frequent crashing.

when looking at processes on task manager the only process with a high figure is GTAV.exe using 2,510,152k

I always close the launcher after opening the game.

Any idea would be greatly appreciated, getting a little bit frustrated with the game.

Thanks.

okay with nvidia opti setting (1080p 144hz most "very high" and a few "ultra" setting its seems to be sitting at a stable 95% cpu usage 100+fps with the launcher remaining open.

seems to be an improvement, but does that cpu usage seem rather high?

not saying this will work but i have heard some people who were crashing tried turning off SLI and it fixed the crashes for them, could be worth a shot

it's not generally considered smooth when you crash every 10 mins . verify the games cache , lower your overclock and exit sli , see ho that runs , oh and reset the graphics to default , . start from scratch , as it is now you have a jumble of different things going on , only change one thing at a time to see haw and what will be affected , when you just start changing everything you lose control of what your doing

Okay, ill return everything to default.

i meant smooth in terms of graphics, no stuttering etc.
the cpu isnt overclocked as its locked, it automatically boosts to 3.9ghz
just trying without SLI now.
are nvidia optimal settings a good idea? or just try default as you say.

right, game cache validated,

turns out i was running with sli disabled, however upon enabling it the game stutters a little bit, both before and after default game settings.
running at 98% cpu usage or there abouts.

what are the settings with the largest impact on game performance?

Im busy atm but il link you this recent vid on optimising GTA 5 and what drains the cpu/gpu the most.

It's actually making my computer run very slowly. CPU wise. Like browsing on the internet, theres a lot of lag and stutter.

Running GTA 5 @144Hz is the cause of the high CPU usage that results in the GTA 5 crashing. Run the game @60Hz and you will never crash again.

I5 4690K oc @4.6
GTX 970 G1 Gaming
VG248QE 144Hz
ASUS Z97 Pro

Sucks not being able to use the 144Hz, however I can run V-Sync, MSAA x2, and TXAA with anisotropic x16 everything else maxed. It looks damn good.

If anyone knows why running GTA 5 at 144Hz causes so much CPU Usage (up to %99), I would appreciate the knowledge.
